I ask cause i need to rebuild a stock one and take out my MSD so i can install my AEM system.
My problem is i have no idea what parts i need and what needs to get done. I know i have to press the gear off cause i saw it done once, but have no idea how i'm going to do it?
Anyone know of a good write up or has any idea?

Thanks
Joe

I've rebuilt mine before. First thing to do is to get a grease pen to line up the dist. gear with the shaft, relative to the pin that holds it in. If it goes in the other way, you'll be playing with the timing all day and it'll never be right. Anyways pick up a stator&reluctor and I suppose a ... I guess it's called a cap adapter, the bottom plastic part of the distributor, that the actual cap snaps on to, new rotor of course.

It's really easy, just get a punch to tap that pin out, use a press to pull that gear out, remove from top, clean (make sure you don't loose the alignment markings), replace stator and reluctor.. reverse, and you're good! It can be a pain to get the gear pressed in and have the holes lined up, could take a couple tries.

The bushing is one of the most important parts of a rebuild. I havent found a known plug-n-play bushing out there.

Man, I wish I had a spare dizzy sittin' around here so I could visualize it.
What year motor?
I suppose I could pull mine out but it wont be for a few days, I'm in the middle of midterms right now.

I am subscribing. I have a MSD that went bad on me and would like to get step by step instructions to replace the stator so that I have a spare lying around - just in case. I decided to keep the MSD and not use it as a core for the stock rebuilt one.

I've searched some but did not find anything as of yet.
