is there supposed to be audible noise from the FP regulator?

I jumpered the FP test connector on the data link connecor to run the pump continously. This is so I could set my Kirban FP regulator. It sounded like fluid was ssshshshhshhhhh-ing thru it (go figure). It was loud enough to be easily heard (with the engine off). BUT I have a small leak and wonder if this noise is the leak, or is it the regulator's normal sound?

if it's leaking fuel, replace or repair it NOW.

as for the noise i don't know. i've never noticed any noise from a regulator but i've never dealt with a Kirban either.


didn't see your other post. the 94-95 regulator are different than the others i've had problems with getting wrong AFPR in the past.

FWIW- I got the leak to stop and it still makes this noise. Everything seems fine.

Rick, I personally have never heard of a AFPR making noise.
Aside from a fuel leak, can you tell whether you have a vacuum leak?

I'm thinking possibly a hole in the vacuum line itself. This line of course is what maintains a stable vacuum in the regulator. Hence, if a vacuum leak was present, that's where I'd look first for noise. Anybody else?

its probably just bypassing the fuel after it builds pressure. on my 4 cyl i can hear the sound in the stock fpr, but havent ever listened to see if the 5.0 does it

This is with the engine off, and the fuel pump test circuit jumpered on the DLC. This makes the fuel pump run constantly. So there is no vacuum being produced. It does sound like fuel just cycling through.
