Is this a good motor to buy?

That's not bad, but the warranty is a little shy, which is not so good if you want to use it with stock heads. Speed Pro pistons are good, but it says up to .060" over bore. That's too much, if I bought that short block, I would have to have LRS guarantee me that they are not shipping me an engine with more than .040" over bore.

I remember looking at a long block assembly from Advance. It wasn't much more money than that, but it came with an 18 month or a 3 year unlimited mile warranty depending on how much you wanted to pay. You also get the advantage of rebuilt cylinder heads with new rockers, lifters, and pushrods.

What is wrong with your engine now that you need to swap in a new one?

If it were me, unless the one in the car now is shot, I'd save my money and put that toward the REAL motor.

However, if you are heart set on "temporary" engine, that one seems good.

Like Rev said, make sure the bore isn't too much...

My motor has milkshake in it and I don't feel like messing with it, so I'm calling it shot. I'd rather just get a cheap fresh motor. I plan on putting a set of used Edelbrock RPM aluminum heads with an RPM II intake on it with my turbo. Probably keep the stock cam. Did the Advance motor come with forged pistons?

Adam, I may take you up on the offer but it's a little bit of a hike. Is it altogether or you just talking about the block?

The Advance motor didn't come with forged pistons, you had to special order it with those. However it would take a long time to build that engine, so I don't think an auto parts store engine would be a good choice if you need forged pistons, which you probably do with a turbo. The Speedpro pistons aren't forged either though.

$150 for that engine is a steel regardless of miles. That's about core value for a 302 long block, and that's not counting the other parts like the timing cover. I would consider raising the price on your engine Adam. If you lived close to me, I would come buy that engine on principle. I sold the original long block out of my car 3 years ago after it had been sitting for 6 years for $400.
