Is this an original 69 Mach? Dont have the VIN yet, but owner claims this had a 302 in it...not sure that's the original motor. I thought the Mach's had the side air scoops like this one. Should be getting door plate numbers tomorrow.

thanks

Didn't all '69s have the fake air scoops, save for the Bosses? And I wouldnt get too excited about it having a 302, since they were a very common motor, and available in the run of the mill sportsroofs. I'm assuming you think it is a Mach 1 because of the striping and such?

Either way, run the numbers and find out

Oh and pics would rock

the smallest engine that a 69 mach 1 would have had was a 351 2v windsor. if the car came with a 302 it's not a real mach

Well, adding the picture would have helped. Sorry, thought i did that. I found the VIN today. It has an "M" in the engine code spot. So that makes it a 351 at least. I guess i assumed that would make it a Mach along with the side scoops?

thanks

well, the m code is a 351 4v so that's at least a good sign. however it looks like it has a new hood, so we can't tell if it had the hood scoop and the hood pins or not which better indicate if it's a mach 1. at this point about the inly way to tell if it's a true mach 1 or not is to order the marti report. www.martiauto.com they will be able to pull the records and find out for sure for you.

actually upon closer inspection that car has the 2 spoke steering wheel not the 3 spoke rim blow that would have come on the mach 1 and i'm also not sure the hood has been changed either now. if those are original to the car it is not a mach 1. just curious, that car wouldn't happen to be in Slaton Texas would it? that fireworks building and some of the other cars look kind of familiar.

Wasn't the base engine a 302? I remember seeing one with one. I know in 70 the 351 wase the base motor.

I'm not sure if this helps, but on '71-'73 Mach's the two numbers of the VIN before the engine code are 05 designating it as a Mach1 rather than a Sportsroof. Does this also apply to '69 and '70 Mach's as well?

in 69 the base engine was the 351-2v. there was not a seperate code designating the bodystyle as a mach 1, that started in 70. technically, in 69 the mach 1 was an option package just like the GT was.
