OK, just got my motor out today and noticed some wear on my SPEC clutch. is the wear around the center normal? this is the first time I have actually ever seen a clutch in person, so excuse the question if it's stupid.

also, can anyone confirm that this is actually a stage 2 SPEC? The basket is obviously blue, there is SPEC lettering on it and VALEO is stamped on it as well.

i have a way higher resolution picture if needed and can take more as well.

Thanks!

That's the pressure plate man...and yes, it's normal. If you want to check the actual clutch you'll have to remove the pressure plate and inspect both the inside plate, the clutch and the flywheel for wear.

Thats where the throwout bearing rides and doesn't look to excessive to me really, how many miles are on it?

sorry, thanks for the correction. my only clutch experience is with bikes, so this is a little new to me.

just 3500 or so miles, granted they haven't been gentle and I've beaten the car like a rented mule at time, but just 3500. that's why I was a little concerned.

I'll pull the actual clutch apart next weekend and post up pictures if I see anything I think is abnormal.

Thanks

Why do you suspect a problem? That wear on the fingers is from the throw out bearing and looks to be pretty normal.

i don't really suspect a problem, I just don't have any experience with this and wanted to make sure its not a problem that needs to be corrected before putting the motor back in.

i'm very glad to hear it isn't an issue.

also, how can I confirm that this is actually a Spec stage 2 and not a stage 1? Are there easily identifiable differences?

Thanks!

I believe the stage II uses two different friction materials on the disk, while the stage I clutch uses only one material. You would have to look at the actual clutch disk to determine which model you have. They should look somewhat like the following. I have the stage II and it doesnt look exactly like the only pictured...but close enough for comparison's sake.

mine looks like the picture you linked of the stage 2, but with less contact area...must be an older design.

Thanks!
