66 Mustang, rewired with Painless and has been on the road over a year.

Long story short. I left my key in the ignition with it turned on. After an hour and a 1/2 I came back to my car with the coil oil boiling over onto the floor. Every wire was cool to the touch, but the coil was way hot.

Thanks.

Sounds like you have a distributor that still has points in it. I blew up a coil this way once, sounded like a gunshot. Its perfectly normal. It just means the engine happened to stop at a point where the points were closed. This doesnt happen with any electronic ignition. *coughcough*timetogetridofpoints*cough*

No I swapped out the points as well about 9 months ago. I replaced them with the PerTronics Ignition and their Coil as well.
