My cobra says to use 5-20. Is it alright to use 5-30 weight?

Yes, I use 5W-30 with no problems.

You're actually better off running the 5w30 versus the 5w20. 20 weight is too thin for these motors and Ford only recommends its use in an effort to reduce their overall C.A.F.E. rating.

I use good old 10w30 in my Cobra seeing as I'm in the deep South and my car rarely ever sees temperatures anywhere near freezing.

In your climate, you could use 5W-20 for the cold season and run 5W-30 for the hot season.

I'm curious Tim... what benefit would 5w20 have over 5w30 in the winter time?

they would have no notable difference even at 0 degrees.

I would personally run the SAE 5W-30 from a top tier oil manuf.
