i have the 87 ho and am switching to carb and need a non computer duraspark or any other cheap suggestions...heres what i found but i cant tell if it is steel gear hardened..
is this the right one 85 gt manual?....thanks

Looks like the iron gear to me by the description in the other thread. However, I'd recommend you just go to the auto parts store and have them pull two distributors. One with a steel gear and one with the iron gear. That should make it really easy to be absolutely certain.

Edit: as far as whether that's the correct '85 distributor, I'm not sure on that either. However if you have the parts store pull two '85 dizzys, that should help answer your question. One reason why the '85 is prefered is due to a good advance curve. I don't think you'll be able to see that though.

Edit2: :) I have pics of my distributor out of an '89 motor. I just looked at them, but I still don't know. Mine should be a steel gear, but it's hard to tell when you're comparing a new gear to an old one. My pics aren't the best either.
