Well it's pretty stupid to spend that kind of cash on detailing if the detailing job costs more than the car and/or paint job that you're having detailed.

This is a perfect example of more money than sense but i guess if you can afford a million dollar car you can afford a 5k detail job.

Detailing is a high end business even for regular cars. When i was a kid my parents ran a detail shop in Lexington KY and detailed all kinds of high end cars from sports cars to limos. We did Jim Breech's Porsche once (he used to be place kicker for the Bengals) and he had gold plated beauty rings on the rims. A lot of what they did was stuff like chip repair, high speed buffing and interior detailing.

its a good business to be in once you get your name around. my buddy just started his own detail shop. its slow now but summers here an it should pick up. hope he does good cuz thats where i have my car parked, in a nice garage from his shop lol

Strangely enough we did about the same amount of business in the winter because some regular type people would just wash and wax it themselves but in the winter it's pretty tough to do.

yeah i was thinkin that. he just opened the doors maybe a couple months ago so its still a very new place. hope it works out for him though. i think he generally charges about $150 a car. shampoo rugs clean interior wash wax an whatnot.

Buffing is pretty expensive around here. You can expect at least $150 for just a high speed buff and wax job. Once you get into shampooing interiors and cleaning engine bays you can rack up a big bill.

only thing about him is that he doesnt really know much. i mean im not an expert but he needs to use better wax atleast. he does it all by hand i believe. i should start my own place an do high speed buffing an whatnot. i knew it was good money but didnt think it was that much geeez

More or less, it just depends on how dirty the engine bay is. A lot of our clients had cars that most people wouldn't even consider to be dirty...

I did my Merkur today though. I used Super Clean and some engine degreaser stuff and various rags and brushes. Then to dress hoses and plastics use some cheap tire foam spray. In some cases you can literally cover the entire engine bay in tire foam and then wipe everything down and have a super clean engine bay. We used to call it the "used car lot detail"

That's without really taking anything apart. I have a car show to go to Sunday, otherwise i'd probably take the alt. off and the brackets off and the intakes and have them media blasted. I need to do the pulleys too and i really need to do something about that cam gear.
