Issue starting the car when Warm

This has happened a few times. If I start the car go for a short drive stop get gas and try to restart it I find it is very
Sluggish to start it’s like its not going to start but it does. When it starts the rpms are bit sluggish also then it runs fine. all this takes a few second.

This only happens when I go for a short drive then try to start again. If I let it sit for a few min (More than 20 ) that does Not happen.

Any Ideas?

I know this is not a major issue but its knida anyoing and I can see it getting worse.

Is your car throwing any codes?
Had another car with similar problems and that was an oxygen sensor. The car ran fine until it was warm. Turn it off and it took an act of god to start it.

sounds like the typical hot start problem if i remember correctly they have mentioned it being the fuel pump that does not maintain pressure on the fuel lines

This is a common problem. Turn your key to run, wait a few seconds for the fuel system to pressurize, and then start it. That is the usual workaround...

that or cycle the key like 3-5 times also has worked in the past

its been happening to my car for 5 years since brand new. ford has no idea what it is. try not to worry about it. unless you find a fix, then let us all know. if you do a search you will find my old threads talking about it.

same here its been happening since i bought it in 03' but its not a everyday thing

i will try turning the key on for 3 or 4 seconds from here on out.....my 04 has been doing the exact same thing since the day i bought it 4 years ago

Well I was talking to one of the guys and he sad maybe it could be the MAF
sensor that might need cleaning.

But from the Posts above with new cars having the same issue, that makes
me think more along the lines of the Fuel pump not pressurizing the system.

I will clean the MAF any way my car has only 60 K on it I will give it a shot.

Unfortunately wont be able to add any good feed back on that till Spring 07

All I do is turn the key to ON, put my seat belt on and then start the car. By that time the fuel lines should be primed and it goes. Waiting a few seconds and then starts works for me.

Mine has had trouble like that. One of my exhaust videos on on my website (see sig for my link) that shows it really well.

I think the fuel pump is not pressurizing fully, like everyone else is suggesting. Just turn the key to the "on" position and wait a until you see the digital mileage from your gauges. By then it should be ready to start.

If that doesn't work, you can also buy a fuel pressure gauge and see if the fuel pump is on its way out.

Let's get one of these hot start threads to become a sticky. They come up all the damn time, and everyone has the same problem.

We've seen several fixes for this over the years. The most recent one where somebody (for once) actually posted the fix after posting his problem, was that the dealer replaced the alternator, saying that the rectifier or something was giving incorrect voltage readings to the PCM, which in turn was giving incorect voltage to the fuel pump due to this. The guy said once they replaced his alternator, it fixed the hot start issue.

Maybe a Ford tech can chime in with a once and for all "This is what we at Ford know or do about this" type response.
