It "ran" good, but just broke.

Honestly I had nothing to do with it this time. The clutch cable broke and I didn't side step the clutch pedal or anything. I think the clutch was just confused that I was even using it to shift. anyway. Luckily I was just a few blocks away from my shop so I got it back and no one was none the wiser. I had already replaced the dogbone cable(2" one) so I ran out to autozone and bought the 61" cable. Heh I mean you know...whats the chances of the autozone short cable breaking.......lol it broke. I had another short cable laying around and replaced it.

NOW I went to test drive it and the clutch pushed really hard. I started it, put it in gear and it didn't even try to move. I turned the car off and left it in gear on the hill and it started to roll. So something else is wrong too.

I'm still going thursday....i hope...

sure you got the cable in all the way and adjusted properly? whats it "not doing" right? shifting? busted clutch flork? bent shifter forks? maybe your leg was just being lazy ?

on that short 2" cable there are 2 totaly different ends... one has just a ball, and the other has the ball AND a little extra around the cable for protection. The protected side goes into the clutch fork and the other regular side goes into the little U bracket. if you assemble incorrectly eventually the clutch fork will just cut the cable and you'll be in a horrible mess.

that is the way I put the short cable back together. On the fine autozone cable the unprotected ball end just fell off. If wasn't cut or anything but the ball slide off the cable.
Right now the clutch is disengaged even with your foot off the pedal. I'm to go check out it in a few minutes. I just left at the shop and drove the cougar home.

I put a new short and long cable on it and its still doing the same. I just ordered a clutch, just incase thats the problem. Hey notched86 if you guys aren't doing anything head over this way.

I had to go help with deliveries over in Culpeper, didn't get back til 7:30. Unfortunetly, I gotta leave tomorrow to go to Minnesota to visit relatives and what not for the 4th.

But I WILL be there on the 8th! Since that old guy wanted to give me nothing for my '89 Mustang, I'm gonna keep it and put an ad in the Valley Trader for it. Since I'll probably still have it on the 8th, I'm gonna seriously try to load that thing up on the trailor and take it down the track.

Here's my thoughts keep that. fix anything wrong with it that would keep you from driving it.IE: brakes or anything else.

A guy called me about an 88 TC engine complete, but it still has the IHI. Do some port work and find a hybrid....like the one laying at my feet and you'll go way faster than me. The only thing that wasn't with the engine is the clutch flywheel. Which has been sitting in my garage for a year now.
I have some big vams and you'll need to get an LA computer.

EDIT:
ALSO just to make it easier on you I promise to stay more than 25 miles away from your project at all times.

Well I got $450 from that white '86 coupe, so if that's enough for the TC engine, than I guess I'll forget about your '88 TC and will just keep this hatchback and drop it in that. The car runs and drives fine. The only problem is the exhaust is gone after the cat, and the paint is shot. There is also a decent crunch in the right fender from where the previous owner hit it with his truck. But yeah, let me know.

I think I can get you the engine for $150 with the turbo, then put the IHI on ebay and you might be suprised at what you get for that.

Dont' worry about the exhaust, if your like me you'll end up changing it anyway.

That sounds awesome. Let me know if you hook it up cause I'd deffinately buy it for $150.

I also found 3 Turbo coupes today. They were all '87-'88. One over in Gordonsville, blue with blue interior automatic, had $1,000 written on the windsheild. Found a black one on Route 20 goin to Wilderness just before the Orange airport. No for sale sign on it, but I've seen it there before and I know it hasn't been moved for months. Body was pretty rough on it. Found another one on the same road, just past the Orange Airport. Burgundy with red interior, sunroof, 5-speed. No for sale sign on that either, but it was sitting at the very front of the guys driveway, and there was weeds and plants all grown up around it, so that had to be sittin there awhile too. I stopped to try to ask about them but nobody was home.

Don't drive anything nice...Find some crappy car to pull up in.

I was working next to this house that had my 59 ford wagon sitting at it. I asked the guy and he said I could have it if I filled 7 perk holes(pretty good sized like 5'X8' and 3-4ft deep.

But I was working at a greenhouse and I'm good friends with the guy. He let me borrow the skid loader and I was done filling the holes in less than 10 minutes. I even had the car loaded before the owner got back with the title.

body and services have very little selfworth. its my inner chi that no one will ever get. unless you have an 85.5 comp prep with low miles. The chi goes and everything with it to get my hands on one of those.
