It's Grilling Time! The Official Stangnet Grill/Smoke Thread

It’s fantastic :nice: . I’ll have to take a picture of my old thermometer so you can see the difference.

Definitely worth the money.

It’s just a little easier to read, lol.

It’s a Weber Smokefire EX6 pellet smoker.

This is just a stock photo, it’ll be next monday before mine is available to pick up from Lowe’s.

I read, reread and rereread a crapload of customer reviews and tests done on this smoker. The negatives associated with this grill seem to mostly have been taken care of by Weber. What wasn’t taken care of just seems like common sense should have taken care of the other problems.

It was released very early this year. Weber has been busy making it into what it was originally advertised as, lol.

I can’t wait to use it. I’m almost thinking about buying a wagyu brisket for it‘s first big cook.

Lowe‘s had these on sale for a grand. Plus my military discount and I got it for $900.:nice:

I ordered a bunch of other stuff with it too. The cover, extra temp. probe, pizza slate, etc....

I‘ll be able to smoke an 18 pound brisket AND get some sleep while it cooks!:taco:

It‘s got a cool app for my phone that allows me to change temps and even smoke level. The probes will keep track of the current temps and display on the app too. I’m very excited.

Reviews to come later.

Alrighty then.......

Lowe‘s sent me an email today saying my order was ready to pick up, and it turned out they were mostly correct. The order was short the cover for the grill and the two bags of pellets (the pellets weren’t ready for the order.....I could see the ones I wanted setting on the shelf even from customer service......).

Anywho, the grill is sitting in the garage waiting to be assembled as we communicate. It was just to f’ing hot after working all day to put it together now. I didn’t get a picture of it sitting there, and I won’t. It’s air conditioned where i’m sitting and I have a beer. Movement is only deemed necessary by my bowls or bladder at this point.

Tomorrow morning i will instruct my son on changing brake pads on his mustang. He will do it, I will watch, insult when necessary, and drink beer.

Then I’ll assemble my new grill before the sun can burn out my retinas.

I did order this as the official baptism for the smokefire grill. I got the 16-18 pounder.

Well, well, hell.....plans to have this built before my backyard turned into Helios went awry.

My son and I started to work on his car at about nine this morning. Should’ve took 45 minutes tops, right? I mean it’s just a set of brake pads......

Anyone else have a son that uses his tools? My other boy has been using them to work on his car. Apparently putting the tools back in their proper place was a trait I was unable to pass down to him generationally. :nonono:

So the first 45 minutes were used finding sockets, wrenches, etc......

Ok, gonna start on the right side first. Let’s break out the 13/16 socket and breaker bar since I left the impact at work. Ok now, let’s just slip the socket on the lug nuts........slip it on the lug nuts......DAMNIT!:fuss:

We just got new tires for my son‘s car about a month ago. Apparently they used a heavy impact wrench to tighten the lug nuts on and the wrong size socket! Four of the five lug nuts were rounded off.

Luckily i was using HF sockets, so I just took the next size down socket and beat it onto the lug nut to get it to hold. I had to use my two foot breaker bar to get the nuts loose!

Ok, got the car jacked up and on my favorite HF jack stands:dig:. The pads are pretty worn. The rotors are the original parts and were worn down enough to warrant replacement too. So off to Orielly’s for rotors and a new set of lug nuts.

It ended up taking almost two hours for the right side to be done, jeez....Bright side is with everything there, the left side might have taken 15 minutes.

What this adds up to is that I didn’t start putting the grill together till about noon.

Due to orientation of my house and any possibility of shade I was forced to assemble it in the glorious blazing son. It took almost two hours to assemble, not because it was difficult, it was just too hot outside to stay out. Beer breaks are an important aspect of grill assembly for those that aren’t sure.

Anyhow, first picture is a box

After taking the top part of the box off. Funny how the grill reminded me of a camel sitting down, ah! Sweet memories of other warm climates.....

Here it is put together with my old Weber pot belly grill.

I had to go buy some pellets so I can do the initial firing of the grill. I haven’t started that yet. Weber calls it Seasoning the Grill. You set the temp for 600 and it cooks for about 45 minutes. I’m not sure if it’s seasoning so much as burning off the slime on bare metal parts, whatever, I’ll go back outside here in about 45 minutes to warm it up.

Final non-food post of my new smoker.

The software updates took about 45 minutes. I got the grill paired to my phone now.

I loaded up the pellets, set the temp for 600 and let it warm up. The grill made it to 500* in about 13 minutes, then it took an hour to get to 580*. I thought that was good enough. I won’t be using this grill for searing much. I just wanted a decent pellet smoker so I didn’t have to be awake the entire night of a brisket cook. Mission accomplished. :nice:

Last couple of non-food pictures. First one, the pellets have dropped down the auger for the first time and have lit. You may not see it, but there’s smoke in them thar grills!

The grill is a hot mofo at this stage. It wouldn’t be wise to lay bare hands on it now.

The grill goes through a fifteen minute cool down/shut off cycle. It works, I could put my bare hands anywhere on it at the end of the cycle. So I put it’s cover on it so it could have a nice nights sleep.

I gotta cook something on this prior to the wagyu brisket. I’ll figure that out tomorrow.
