It's Grilling Time! The Official Stangnet Grill/Smoke Thread

I'll see your $61/lb. steak and raise you $120/lb Spanish Iberico ham!

Oh, and feel free to call me a Neanderthal, but I want to buy STEAK, not FAT. I'd rather have the butcher steaks in your first picture over the "not-Kobe" fat in your second picture.
What the hell is Spanish Iberico ham and why does it cost so much?

Got to google now.

Holy smoke! It sounds really good, I just saw $105 for a HALF pound!

Heck, my steaks will be a bargain!

Have you tried it before? I’m curious as to the taste now.

High quality beef with the right marbling is sooooo good. I dont like big hunks of fat either.

I've had a Wagyu a couple of times. Its awesome! I know they look fatty as hell but when cooked right they melt in your mouth! Even the larger fatty parts just turn to butter.

I'm with Dave on this one. If you ever get the chance to try it do yourself a favor and give it a go!

Now I've got to clear my schedule so I'll be ready for Dave's Super Awesome Ultra Prime Ribeyepaloza!

I’ve been reading up on the whole Waygu/kobe beef thing. The closer you get to the real thing, the higher the prices go.

All that marbling in the Waygu meat is different than our cattle as well.

Holy smoke, I think i’ll be happy with a normal Waygu steak.

Maybe once a year treat.

Cooked some ribeyes this weekend. Nothing to exciting to report, but I did snap this pic while on the back porch.

Whats so special about this pic? It's not the old electric smoker or the brush burner or the leaves. It's that extra water spigot. I dont have a full blown outdoor kitchen. More power to ya if you do! But, maybe just maybe one day I'll have one. For now I have that extra spigot. It's HOT water! When the house was being built I had them run a hot water line to the back porch. I dont use it all the time, but it is super handy. If you're building a house or thinking about build and dont live in the great white north, consider it!

So i did it, I ordered three of these and five pounds of wagyu hamburger.

I’ll go to Perry’s and buy a nice ribeye and a pound of hamburger for comparison sakes.

It honestly doesn’t matter if this wagyu meat blows away my local butcher’s meat. I may get this a couple times a year if it’s real special. I’m blue collar as it gets, I can’t afford this real often, lol.

I found places to buy A5 wagyu japanese beef (basically Kobe beef), but for a one pound steak I’ll pay close to $250!!!

That said, next year I’ll find a way to purchase one, just because. I’m getting older and my traveling years are behind me mostly. Why not go nuts this time?

I’ll give a nice review of the steaks and hamburgers. I should have the meat by thursday or friday at the latest.

I got a box today.

Dry ice really is very cold stuff btw, don’t try licking it, trust me.

So, three steaks in the white box and five pounds of hamburger in the burlap bag. Frozen SOLID!

Look at that beautiful marbling!

The color will turn back toward a pinkish red as it thaws. The steaks weigh in at over 1.5lbs each. The website advertises 16oz.

I guess once i cut the fatty edge off it will weigh probably right at the advertised weight. I will keep the trimmings and cook them as well.

Oooohhh I can’t wait for this weekend! Saturday will be wagyu burgers, sunday will be ribeye day. My son has decided he would stop back from college for the whole weekend, lol. It’s because he loves me so much......at least that’s what he said.

Wagyu saturday has arrived. I made seven ounce patties from the butcher and from the wagyu meat. The butcher’s on the left, wagyu on the right.

Cooked and ready for me and the boys to test out the difference.

I am officially blown away, holy crap! We all tried a bite of the butcher’s burger first, and it was great.

Then a bite of the wagyu burger...........without any exception, this is the best hamburger I’ve ever eaten. At $35 for five pounds, I’ll be buying my hamburger from Double Eight.

I really can’t tell you how much better it is. It’s so much more tender and so much more flavorful.

You don’t want or need condiments with this hamburger. It interferes with the fantastic flavor. I’m not kidding. Part of my burger had ketchup, mustard and pickles, part had just bun. That was the best part.

I used a little lowry’s on the burgers. Tomorrow the ribeyes will just get a little salt and pepper. I don’t want to interfere with the steak at all.

I love good food as much as anybody, but it seems Booger is taking a back seat to the Grill!! Lol.
But those pics are making me hungry.
Booger’s doing alright. Life kind of forced me to take a break from working on him for a short period. I figured I still got to eat though :D

All looks yummy! This is my experience grew up with grilling on propane. On another forum someone mentioned a grill you start on propane to light the coals and then cook on charcoal. This was the Weber Performer Deluxe. The little extra time it takes to me is well worth the flavor. I do recommend when cooking a good meat thermometer I was recommended a MK4 Thermapen and can concur it has made me get my meat cooked just right. Here is tonight's dinner! Salmon! And yes grill is staged to have the Stang in the back ground!

Your grill setup is one of the best if not, The Best portable charcoal rigs around. It really is hard to beat a kettle grill for most things charcoal.

Yeah and this is my first Webber, I have to add this had a warranty issue, a piece was missing. Then not too long after I hit it with something maybe tractor dont remember, so had to order a replacement part. There customer service both times was exceptional! It sold me on the propane Webber that I just bought for my mom for her house for when we visit on occasion.

I have been on a fish kick lately, we go and get an entire salmon fillet [almost does not fit in the smoker] season it with whatever we are experimenting with that weekend. Usually anything with a bit of kick is a favorite, then just like any good BBQ we hit it with a bit of sauce at the end and it turns out spectacular. On the smoker we try for 250-275* for about 2-2.5hrs..
This last go around i was trying to fit the BBQ into my keto so i just used a mixture of mustard, vinegar, olive oil and it was surprisingly good.

You're already way ahead of [most] folks when it comes to an outdoor kitchen. You already have running hot water!

Don't let the HGTV 'million dollar idea' pe0ple tell you anything. This is ok:

It's an outdoor kitchen and a bunch of BS that only works well for banks and contractors.

[This] however, is an outdoor kitchen minus the cooler of ice and beverage:

and this one is one of my personal favorites (I have many such images as I'm still in the planning stage):

Might take half of a Saturday to put one together that suits you. Even I can build that. :D (The dock cleats are genius BTW and who couldn't use a charcoal shovel and poker????)
:nice:

Noobz, I cant agree with you more. I dont want some crazy expensive setup. It would be a waste. Now me and the wife.... well we'll see how our differing ideas play out in the end! She probably wants more of the HGTV thing, but she's pretty reasonable with most thing. Building it out of that much wood. Yeah I'd set that thing on fire by accident one day! Would just have to put wheels on it so I could roll it down the hill before it set the house on fire!

LoL

For the accident prone: Perhaps a piece of stainless for the top.

It's hard to tell in that image but that whole thing is on casters. It wouldn't be too much more difficult to put it onto wheels like:
