I didn’t take a pic...... but I was off the last two days so I made some of my own burgers. Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and a little regular salt.
The ground beef was from from Costco..... probably a little leaner than you’d want, but it’s what I had.
Let the beef sit out a bit before I put on grill. Cooked to a nice medium well, topped with cheddar, and then lettuce and tomatoe once off the grill. Wife and daughter both approved, so we’ll be doing this again soon!!

Sometimes, just sticking with the basics is the way to go.

Sadly my old stainless 5-burner grill is starting to feel it’s age. Beginning of summer I welded some holes up in the bottom of it, and fixed the burner stands. A couple weeks ago I was looking at replacement racks etc at Meijer ,and I came across an adjustable cast iron grate-on clearance. So I bought it.
And I gave it the cast iron treatment of baking it in the oven a few times with oil on it, last heat cycle I rubbed the cooking surface with bacon grease. I didn’t take pics :-( but it’s maiden voyage involves 3 healthy cut strip steaks cooked to a nice medium. Turned out great. Long story short-I recommend the cast iron cooking grate lol

I really like cast iron grates. My grill is just an old, I bought it in 2003, Charegriller. At the time I bought it it came with heavy cast iron grates. The new ones are much thinner. They have worked great for me all these years!

For those with the interest, the wagyu ribeyes were fantastic. Better than the butcher’s ribeyes by a margin.

But not almost six times the cost better, that is for sure. I can see them as a once a year treat, like for a birthday, or memorial day, something with meaning behind it. A salute to my buddies that can’t be with me anymore.

They really were good though. I understand how it’s really hard to eat much of something that rich. One steak is truthfully enough for two people.

One interesting picture. It only took the wagyu steak about 30 seconds to sear on each side. The butcher’s steak took the normal minute/minute and a half to sear. The butcher’s steak is on the left, wagyu on the right. Which one has more fat dripping? Lol.

I tried the wagyu hotdogs and wagyu brats today. Really good, but not worth the extra coin in my mind.

Tomorrow morning I’ll be having the wagyu beef bacon.

So, for the future? I’ll be buying wagyu hamburger, no doubt. All other cuts will be from my local butcher.

BTW, my old Weber is on it’s last legs. This will be it’s last cooking season. Parts are rusting away.

So this winter I’ll be getting a new grill. I really like the charcoal ability, but I see the convenience of gas. Anyone know of a good cross over?

I really wouldn’t mind just buying a Big Green Egg either. I’ve lusted over those for quite some time.

Give me your thoughts guys.

This one was bought for about $400 at a scratch and dent surplus store. It has a broken piece but we have everything we need to repair it. I'll be sure to document the process here! Should have it rolling by next season.

Real Men don't cook they BBQ!

This was camping with the Scouts 2 week ends ago
One guy caught this monster Taco (octopus for you on the continent)
and the scouts grilled it right up. Don't really care for Taco but like the little tentacle ends when they get crispy ~Taco Bacon we call it.

This picture is just to horrify my Stangnet friends of course, LOL
but I am goin to buy a tray of Tri Tip (yes moo cow) for grilling today.
Its a grilling weekend!
Happy Labor Day

Yup,

Agree.... there’s a real fine line between good and un- edible. But when cooked right.....it’s good to go!!

The crust came out really good.

Kingsford Pro, all gray on top
Room temperature, patted dry, salt, pepper, let it sit out half the day
light coat of olive oil, and fresh chopped garlic before wrapping in foil

This one was thicker than usual so I did 5 minutes per side in foil and 3 minutes per side without. rest 15 minutes under foil and a towel.

It sliced perfectly with a knife a buddy just gave me. I had some rare and some medium-rare in there. Both were really good. We did mashed taters and brown gravy.

I'll have biscuits, gravy, and some taters for breakfast. We killed the steak. Not even enough left over for my famous Tomahawk Breakfast Burritos
