It's raining inside my car!

Hi, guys . . . any input would be helpful. I have an 89 GT--basically stock, just starting to make mods. Before I go too far, though, I need to take care of a small (?) problem. My GT is a daily driver and sometimes I get some SERIOUS water leakage into my interior when it rains. The weird thing is that it doesn't do it all the time. Sometimes I get soaked in a light rain, other times no leakage at all in a HEAVY downpour. I have replaced all of the weatherstripping (both doors, hatch, sunroof) in the past year. Yet, I'm still getting drainage at both doors. The sunroof and hatch seem to be fine. The water comes in just above the doors, and seems to come out of the plastic sill that meets the A-pillar in the top corners of the windshield. It literally dumps like a gutter right into my lap. Is there something I'm missing? or may have done wrong? I used the replacement weatherstripping from Latemodel Resto Supply. Again, I appreciate any feedback. Thanks! Bryan

My guess would be you didn't install it right.....The reason it only comes in sometimes is prob. b/c the dirrectoin of the rain.

wow, i have the same exact problem. I replaced my weatherstripping like 2 years ago. I too have a sunroof and I figured it was the sunroof hoses that let the water drain from the sunroof (if it gets in) down to the ground. I pulled that little trim piece above the door off and i'm gonna watch next time and see where it's coming from!

My vert leaks from the same place, but I believe it is the seal at the windshield. Unfortunately, the only to to fix it is to have the windshield replaced

Get some caulking and caulk the **** out of it in any areas you figure will need it.......try to be careful as it can make a mess but should help. You can always razor blade any excess caulking after it dries. It is cheap and can often solve such dilemmas.

My dad's 95 GT Vert has been having some bad a$$ problems with water leaking into his car when it rains. There will be a pool of water in the car from the rain. I can only think that the top should be a little tighter or that the weatherstripping is the problem. Another idea was the passenger door collects the water and then it leaks into the car. Something is messed up though...

Fold a dollar bill and stick it between the weather stripping and the door. You should feel it drag between the two. Or it could be the drain hose from your sunroof.

i replaced all of my weatherstripping too...and i STILL had leakage...so what i did was (while i was washing it) i hosed my 88 stang down real good....and kept hosing it until i got a leak....(latch for the sunroof) found it....took apart the latch and then re sealed it with some sealant and then put her back together....so far...no more leaks.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I'm confident that I put the w/s in right. I will try the dollar bill, dcrahn--good idea. What's the deal w/ the sunroof drain hose. If that's causing a problem, what's the solution? Anyone know? Thanks again.

you're supposed to clean those hoses out...use compressed air or something. I've never cleaned mine, but I know you're supposed to and I should...it could have gotten clogged up, leaving the water no where to go except down through your trim. I don't know the route these hoses actually take, this is just what i've read in other posts about sunroof cars having water leaks.

I had the same problem....pretty much ruined my headliner. Ended up being one of the cups that the sunroof slides into had developed a leak. Put some clear epoxy on it and voila, leak fixed!

I had the same problem. The water runs on the backer board for the headliner and eventually the water runs out at A-pillar in the top corners of the windshield.

What's the deal w/ the sunroof drain hose. If that's causing a problem, what's the solution? Anyone know? Thanks again.

If your drain hose is cracked or broken the only solution that I know of it to remove the headliner and fix the problem. But if it's just clogged I've heard (never said I tried it) you can use something like Liquid Plumber to break open the clogged hose.

I took the sunroof out today and poured water down the drain hoses. Both seemed fine. (FYI to those who have a sunroof: it drains down and out the bottom of the car just below the front of the doors.) Thanks for the feedback motrv8ed and almost stock. My headliner has begun to sag in the past couple of weeks and I need to take it out and replace it anyway. I will check the cups at the front of the sunroof for leaks when I do that.

Nothing new yet. It will probably be the weekend (6/26-27) at the earliest before I can take out the headliner. It's a daily driver and I will need the car until then. I'll post as soon as I get it out. I really do appreciate all the help everyone's given---thanks! Bryan
