in short:
I would like to use the quick setting JB Weld to fill a small crack in my carb. The rated temp is 300 deg F for the quick, and 500 for the standard JB Weld. Should 300 be enough? How hot does the base of the carb get?
the long version:
The 2bbl on my 351c has a small crack at the base in the center between mounting holes (but not by mounting holes). The PO bought the carb remanufactured but warranty ran up a few months ago :/ For all I know they had overtightened it.. Anyhow I am not about to buy another 2bbl and I do not want to go 4bbl yet. So JB Weld is lookin good
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think I should apply it with the carb tight on the manifold (though I will be replacing the gasket and will put some in the crack just before I reinstall it). I thought about filling the crack and placing the carb in a vice while it sets...but wouldn't it be more stressed when reinstalled and be more likely to crack again? If I do this with the carb installed I think the quick setting one is necessary. Its fscking cold out here. I can do this in a heated garage but I can't plan on leaving the car in there for over 4 hours.
