I cruise the Jegs site on a regular basis. If I can't find it used/get it on Corral, more than likely it came from Jegs.

I noticed that for every category of parts, they seem to have their "house" brand, just like at the grocery store with the cereals in the bag on the bottom shelf.

Where/how are these parts made? What is the quality as compared to name brands? As an example, I need a harmonic balancer for my 408. The house brand is $164.99. FRPP is $274.99, and it goes WAAAY up from there. Some are upwards of $500. What's the difference here? I feel like they all do the same thing, the Jegs brand is SFI approved.

Opinions? I'd rather not drop all that coin on a HB if it is not entirely necessary.

I've wondered the same exact thing. They've got some subframe connectors that look like the kenny brown ladder style for around 75-100 bucks. I may be thinking of Summit- they do the same thing with a lot of parts... If the quality is there I don't see how you can beat the price!

I was warned by a guy that they have that stuff made in China though, and that the material specs over there are not held to the same engineering standards as here.. That's the only thing that's kept me from doing it.

If you wait a few minutes Justin will come through here and throw something at us and yell you get what you pay for...:)

if thats the case i hope he doesnt own any trick flow parts since summit owns trick flow and sells a few parts under the summit and trick flow name but a few bucks cheaper under the summit name. hell you can look at the part numbers on a few of the parts and see they are the same other then the first 3 letters which is usally the name of the company

If the engine is stock or nearly so, then I don't think a cheaper dampener will be an issue. If this is a high rpm or high HP engine, then I would personally stay away from the "no name" dampener.

The Auto Parts Manufacture I worked for 15+ years for, we use to make a number of products for many Companies then put their label on the box. Example is CV Axles and Water Pumps, our product in the box and Ford sticker on the box. We also provided ECM's, PCM's for Delphi (General Motor's Electronics Division).

Jegs and Summit have bought a few companies and just have them around for their "House Brand" items. Summit even bought TFS and TEA. The smaller items such as Fuel Pumps, Filters, etc. are made by reputable companies just with a Jegs sticker.

Hmm. I may just send them email to just check and see who makes the balancer i'm looking at. It doesn't seem like too much technology and R&D is tied up in these things...

I've also been known to be wrong before...

Hello, How may I help you?

Hi Bob, I have a question about your Jeg's brand harmonic balancers. Who makes them?
9:51:44 AM
I just built a 408 SBF and need one and am concerned about "get what you pay for" quality
Bob G9:51:54 AM
We are not able to disclose the manufactures name per the purchasing agreement with them

These are very good balancers, we have had them for several years now and have had no issues with quality of the product.

As far as the internal construction, what separates a "good" balancer from a "great" balancer in a high-horsepower application?
Bob G9:54:38 AM
the way it pulls harmonics from the engine, what I would consider a great balancer is Fuildamper of ATI,
Collin9:54:38 AM
Also, can you tell me where the balancers are made?
Bob G9:55:32 AM
The performance SFI dampers are made over seas,

Ok, thank you for the information Bob. Have a good day.

There isn't much made in the US anymore especially auto parts. I'm pretty sure their balancers are made by PPI (Professional Products Inc.). Probe, D.S.S. and some other companies use PPI. Romac makes the best balancer but they are pricey and I don't know if they are even made in the US anymore.

What I've found to do, is just google the exact part you're considering, and see what people have to say about them. It can be hit or miss, for example people will rave about the Summit radiators, but I've seen their lower control arms to be questionable. I have the Summit SFI damper on my car and it seems like a good piece- I wasn't able to find any complaints on it online.

Something else to mention, is that YES, Summit owns Trick Flow and TEA, BUT if you buy Trick Flow parts off the shelf from Summit, especially cylinder heads, they will not come with as nice of parts on them as they will if you custom order them direct from TEA. Some of that they stock in bulk with middle-of-the road components (specifically springs and retainers) so they can crank them out in large sales volume. Not necessarily bad, just something to be aware of.
