Junkyard Turbo

Maybe I should just do some research but I thought i'd ask, btw i did do a search but didn't find anything useful

Everybody talks about doing a junkyard turbo install since they're so cheap but obviously require a lot of fab work. Alright, how would you aquire a junkyard turbo? just go get one out of a gt probe or what? I mean, there's this place called 'pick a part' by my house but I have no idea what cars would have a turbo inside. So I guess what I'm asking is what would I be looking for and is that what people mean when they say 'junkyard turbo'?

well, i dont know about junkyard turbos but I can tell you about cars that have em stock: some Rx7s, eclipses, saabs, volvos, supras, WRX, but I dont know anything about fabbing the whole thing up but those cars have turbos (not all models) so hope that helps some.

Thanks, mustangmatt

yea, but those are fairly newer cars. Like I mentioned the probe gt has turbos right, so what are some slightly older cars that I would find at a junk yard and would those cars have turbos that I could utilize? Like would the turbos in the probe be worthwhile or would it be a pointless venture?

lol....i wouldn't go twins its too much work and not enought room get a holset h1c or hx35 these should be good from around 400rwhp and you can pick them up off cummins guys for a good price 200ish shipped usealy and when you need more power you and upgrade them or just swap it out for a hx40...one guy was runing 11's with a hx35 and a full weight fox body GT, gt40 head and a tfs intake i belive. But look in to thunder birds if you want twins thats an easy way to 500rwtq if you can deal with all the fabing of twins

at least u tried searchin...

search under my name... and you will see my build(which is now complete and running, minus a MAF)

my total cost was $1k including BRAND NEW TURBO and WASTEGATE and BLOWOFF VALVE, V-BAND, SILICON connectors... bla bla bla... just no MAF and 42lbers included in the price because i had those from my previous turbo setup.

yea, if i did it, it'd probably be a setup like yellow5.0cobra's single T70 setup. I still have some reading to do on the whole turbo setup but thanks everybody!

yellow5.0cobra: i did a search on you and found the thread where you talk about ditching the twins and going to the single but i was wondering if you had any more discussion or pics that i may have missed- i see how you have the headers hooked up to the turbo and i saw a pic of your downpipe but did you have anything else? if not it's fine, thanks for all the information!

don, I have a set of twins if you are intrested in them. Both off of the older 2.3L turbocharged mustangs.
im a believer in the big single turbo setup as the best route for power...
and ease of instillation/fabrication. I say single is the way to go unless you have a lot of time to work everything out.

thanks anyways 1105 but this is kinda an informational period for me

btw: is that the setup you just scrapped because it had too many problems? I can see why you decided to take it out, but you've already put that much time and effort into it, i think you should give it a little longer. But that's just from an opinion of an outsider

Yes thats the setup I just took out... I need to change that pic :D

I probably should have given it more time but I couldnt stand it any longer. I just wanted to be able to jump in my car and KNOW it will get me from point A to point B without any problems
