Watz up guys? I am new to the 2.3 liter turbo motor and need a little backround on it. Is the motor in the 88 T-bird turbo coupes the same motor as the mustang? Do they run good and can I expect one of these motors to last or is it a ticking time bomb? Also, if u could fill me in on some of the typical problems with this motor I would be greatful. Some of u r probobly wondering y I need to know all of this so I will explain. I resently totaled me brand new 03 Ford Ranger. Now I am looking for a car I can buy in cash and just get minimal coverage on. My cousins dad has 2 1988 T-bird turbo coupes and he is willing to sell both of them to me for $1,000. One was totaled and was never retitled(Not much damage, he hit a deer and damaged the front bumper and hood), that car has a bad tranny in it. The other one he has is in good condition and was just painted, but he said the motor in it is bad. he had the whole top end rebuilt and it just doesnt run right (at least thats what he said). I havent really looked over the cars yet I am just throwing around some ideas. If u guys could give me your input on whether u think this would be a good deal and if one of these cars would make a good daily driver I would appreciate it.
thanks guys
Sean

2.3T is a good motor, has some quirks ...usualy jsut small stuff. Start searching here in the forum and youll get the jist of it. If you dont have the inside knowledge (like found here and turboford.org) then these cars seem impossible...when really it is something so very simple. Sorry bout the ranger 1,000 bux for 2 birds sounds like a deal to me

I would seriously look into those T-Birds you will get hooked once you get one running right and they sure are a lot of fun... Knowledge is power (and of course a few $$$) with these things so start reading now. Good Luck..

Start running searches through this forum and you will find all kinds of stuff that you can learn from and feed off of. 2.3's are great motors, especially when you get into turbo's. I mean, you have the power of a V8 and the economy and durabilty of an I4. Whats not too like? Go for the turbo t-birds and start digging in is my advice.
