Just Another Random Question

I love all these worshippers who go crazy when someone pushes 2000hp out of a Chevy 5.3 junkyard engine on an engine dyno. Do these people not realize that the same thing was being done with junkyard 351 engines 20 years ago?

Kurt
You're gonna have to show me an example of that...
Maybe 10 years ago,....No wait,.....maybe 5 years ago
5 years ago the turbocharged JY 351 build ups were barely making half that, and expiring easily afterwards. Even then, they had to add a bunch of aftermarket bs to get the engine to breathe well enough to even have a prayer of making 1k hp.

Same crap they are doing today with 5.3 engines; putting stupid huge twin turbos and boosting the engine on an engine dyno. No rewards for a second pull, if the engine ran for the 5 seconds to make a huge hp number, they called it a win. I have at least 3 articles from MM&FF.....somewhere in my attic where this was done. For all the LS people who think Matt Happel is god, they leave out the part where it took him four engines to get over 1000hp, and now the truck is for sale. Hmm... I wonder why?

Kurt, you need to read the article I linked you....they subjected that Windsor to numerous pulls. Has AFR 205 heads, a Crane roller, and an aftermarket intake. Two 76 mm turbos and 18 psi couldn't even break 1000 hp. And they fragged the engine trying to make more. ( course they did stupid sht trying to accomplish that,.)
The Windsor probably would've made similar power compared to the bottom engine, but they are miles apart from each other.

Conversely, similar mods to a smaller LS using stock TEA ported heads, ( no freakin way in hell you could port a set of stock Windsor heads to flow as much) Comp cam, and lifters. and after numerous pulls, the same twin CX 76 mm turbos produced 1200 hp at 26.8 psi...and....no breaky.

A Windsor is a good engine, ( for a truck) but it's not the same architecture as a LSX or Mod motor. It's old, the stock heads suck, the big assed crank has giant 3 in. mains, and it's held in by two bolt caps compared to the six the newer stuff uses...it simply could not play with the heads it comes with from the JY.

What needs to be done is a true stock versus a true stock comparo...the LS engine will flat out kill the Windsor.

The LS is a great street engine. It has been out for 20 or so years, and yet it has not ecliped the SBC. When you go to the racetrack and see what guys are running making big power...over 1k power, you see very few if any LS engines. Hard core racers still use the old school design. When you throw aftermarket parts at an engine to make big power, the LS is a distant 3rd or 4th place.

At some point I'll find an online article where they pushed 1800hp out of a stock 351. There is a recent one. A little busy right now.

I'm not saying that somebody didn't coax that much power out of a Windsor.

I'm saying it wasn't 20 years ago, and it isn't stock right out of the JY. And at 1800 hp., it's gonna be so far from JY the point will be pointless.

I think the whole thing of seeing how much power you can get out of engine once is pointless, which was my point. Let's push this discussion off to another time, because we are seriously thread jacking at this point.

I agree,....but I think the original topic in the thread was asked and answered about a dozen different times anyway, it's not like we're doing anything beyond keeping a dead thread alive...
