Just acquired a 70 coupe with no engine or tranny in it. Been pondering which V8 engine to put into the stang. I have 302s, 351W, 1973 400, and couple of 460s (70 and 73). Originally a 200 6 cyl car. Really want to put the 70 460 in it or change it to a 429. However, I'm not sure what I will have to do other than change out all the motor mounts (have 3 piece 71 setups), move the cross member back a few inches for the C6 to work, do the exhaust, and shorten the driveshaft. Is it as easy as putting the BB in the 71 or do I have to modify the shock towers and move the shocks out board? sorry if this has been answered before but for some reason search function is not working for me. In any case I will be changing out the rear diff to V8 5 lug and front to disk setup.

Wow, what helpful people we have in this forum. Not one reply! Anyhow I found out the information elsewhere. I will be transplanting a 429 with DOVE heads (with CJ valves and bowl work) into this Coupe. Apparently while it will be a tight fit there are no modifications necessary to the shock towers. I will be buying the swap kit from Crites (motor mounts, headers, and lower cross brace). May or may not have to move the tranny cross member but will deal with it when it happens. Will change to higher rate springs, decent shocks, and change out brake system to 5 lug front drum/rear drum 10"x2 1/2" setup. Will document and take pics of the process. However, first project is replacing the floor pans as the replacement panels are on the way.

Congrats on the 70 sounds more like you have it all set Had a 70 coupe Ivy green 302 changed to 4bbl ran great are you going to up grade the sway bar as well may get a little drifty on corners with more power. I relocated the Batt for more room in eng bay

OT, but interesting to me to hear that your '70 coupe had 4 lug wheels. My convertible was originally a 250 straight six car and it had 5 lug wheels. I'd be really surprised if anyone changed it over. I've owned the car since '91. I wonder if it was an option? Sorry I don't know anything about the big block swap. I would recommend any and every reinforcement you can come up with, though. The big block will be hard on a unibody chassis.

With a pair of conversion motor mounts, and conversion headers, the 460 is a bolt-in for 67-70.

Think they came with 5 lug with the 250. This one is an original 200 with 4 lug. Plan on sub-frame connectors and cross braces in all the right places.
