So i just bought an 02 GT, with 18,000 miles on it.

Love it! Thats all i have to say about it. But, what are some easy mods to do myself, and what kind of gains will they give me?

I was thinking about a Cold air intake, Catback exhaust, cause i know i can do these myself. what kind of gains would i see?

How hard is it to install new pulleys, new gears, and a short throw shifter?
How about a chip?

What would you guys suggest?

Thanks for any help!

There's a sticky thread up toward the top, called post the best faq threads, and one called modification survey thread.. In there you'll find an answer to every question you just asked. Happy mod'ing.

Hello,

First upgrade I did was Eibach Sportline springs with Steeda's lower aluminum control arms to get rid of that side to side action in the rear. You may want to look into adjustable Upper & Lower control arms in case you have rear pinion angle problems.

Pick up a shifter....anyone of them is better then stock.

4:10 gears & a SCT chip will have you on your way....

oh yeah and a KB

I would say get all your basic bolt-ons first...Intake (whole kit) headers, higher flowing cats and h-pipe, catback exhaust (borla or magnaflow) and then pully's. With all that and slicks you could easily be in the mid 13's depending on how good you can drive (maybe even 13.3's).

Then do atleast 3.73 or 4.10 gears and get it tuned. I still cant decide which one i am going to get cause out here in vegas their is a lot of freeway races.

Supercharger...oh and new plugs and wires for better spark..

shifter is easily the best first mod. relatively cheap, 1-2 hour driveway mod, and it completely changes the feeling of shifting

I always say it subframes..... Maybe I should make that my sig? Anyway SHifter is a good 1st mod, a catback (really not that much Hp but you can get the sound you want) mid pipe GEARS 4.10's then let the mod bug run wild. Heck I don't even kid myself with this is the last thing.... yeah right that's why the car is half torn apart in the driveway and I got parts been overnighted.

It all depends on where you want to go with this car. Do you want just a few mods to add alittle more pep? or do you want to be a track beast?

Either way some of the must haves are.. lowering springs, short throw shifter, gears, exhaust.

Depending on how mechanically inclined and what access to tools and friends you have.. you could at least do the mid-pipe and catback yourself, the short throw shifter yourself, the cai yourself, tb/plenum yourself. You may need help on headers and gears. The gears have to be very exact when installed, and also they have to be pressed. U/D pulleys you may also be able to do yourself.. if you have access to an impact wrench. Instead of getting a chip you could buy a hand held tuner and have a tuned mailed to you on it and you can load it directly to your stock cpu. Or you can take the tuner to a dyno and have them make you a dyno tune
