Just changed my belt, now my car shakes.

Ok, I just remembered that last night BEFORE the belt was changed I hit about 110 and the car wa shaking. Im pretty sure uts running on only like 7 cyl. When I mashed it it got to like 3000 ROM and it was shaking violently. the whole car was vibrating. I checked every thing I could with no tools (wires and coil) Im going to cehck it tomm. Any ideas are welcome.

It shakes at idle? If so run a cylinder balance test (part of the self-test diagnostics). You just need a paperclip to do this (no real tools). If the miss is not detected with the CBT, check things like the balancer that Derek mentioned.

Good luck.

A bad balancer will have a cracked elastomer (rubber) in spots, or the outer ring will have longitudinal run-out compared to the inner hub (it wobbles). The timing marks can be off if the outer ring slid.

The CBT is part of retrieving codes (the CBT is considered part of the self-diagnostics that the computer can do, like how it runs the fan when it starts the retrieval process, etc.

Hissin50 is right. Lots of times you can see the rubber is cracked or coming loose or completely out. Or you can let the car idle and it will wobble. Wobble=replace. It should run true and straight.

Here's a pic of a bad balancer.

And a better one:

O and I have NO IDEA how to do self test diagnostics. I just got the car a few months ago and I havent really had to do anything on it. My truck I had before that was a little 4 cyl. So this is my first V8.:D

Take a look in your repair manual for information on how to run the self tests. A search in here can reveal 20 links as well.

It takes an hour or less most of the time to swap a balancer out. There are a ton of threads out there with pretty specific instructions.

A decent non-SFI unit is under 100 bucks, and a good SFI unit runs 160-400 often times.

Good luck.

I took the new belt off and started it and it didnt shake. then I put the old belt back on and it runs perfect. I didnt pay $40 for a belt that makes my car run like ****. Im bringing tit back. thanks for all the help guys.

Ok, I went got the new belt and on the way back it started shaking again, but not NEARLY as bad as it was. But its definately noticable. I can feel the shaking mostly through the shifter.
