When I get over my fear of dying in a year or so,I will be back with a 331 or 347 N/A motor,C-4,3.55 and a full cage,no blower this time,just keeping it simple and easy. I just wanted a solid 12 to high 11 second car that is 100 % street legal.

Pog: If my memory serves me correctly, that rule only applies to 100% factory stock cars. Thus if you have a car that came from the factory without a blower - the 12.00 floor applied for hard-tops. Or if you have added nitrous or technically, even added a smaller pulley to your factory blown Cobra, the lower limit would not apply. Basically, the intent was to recognize that the newer cars coming from the factory are equipped to handle the speed in an accident. Thus all of us running anything other than a factory blown car will be required to meet the more stringent limits.

That was true for this year, but it is going to be changed for '05 to allow all cars to run to 13.50 or 11.50.

I haven't been able to find a formal statement from the NHRA yet but here it is from George Klass at FFW:

Some of you may have noticed that NHRA has previewed some (hopefully all) of their rules changes for 2005, and some of them will have some minor effect on us, mostly for the better I think. The 2005 NHRA Rulebook went to the printer this past Wednesday and will be available in early January. Here are some of the "new rules updates".

13.99 - Driveshaft loop (slicks) - Same as before
13.99 - Helmet (Snell 90+) - Same as before
13.49 - 5-point harness (SFI 16.1)(convert) - Used to be 13.99
13.49 - Approved roll bar (convert) - Used to be 13.99
11.49 - Driveshaft loop (street tires *) - Used to be 13.00
11.49 - Approved flywheel/clutch (SFI 1.1, 1.2) - Used to be 11.99
11.49 - Approved Jacket (SFI 3.2A/1) - Used to be 11.99
11.49 - Approved roll bar (closed vehicles) - Used to be 11.99
11.49 - 5-point harness (SFI 16.1) - Used to be 11.99
11.49 - Approved flywheel shield (manual trans)(SFI 6.1, 6.2) - Used to be 11.99

* I don't know if "street tire" is the same as the drag radial DOT tires yet.

NHRA has also adopted the new SFI chassis specs. The SFI Spec 25.4 or 25.5 is the one that effects many of our door cars running between 8.49 and 7.50. All new cars, meaning any car that has never been issued a chassis cert before (first time certification), must meet these new guidelines as of Jan 1, 2005. "Beginning Jan 1, 2006, all current cars must meet the new specs at their next scheduled recertification." This quote is taken directly off the NHRA website, so as I understand it, if your chassis tag has not expired, you will not need to meet the new SFI chassis specs until your next recert or Jan 1, 2006, whichever comes first.

Very low 11's on 17" drag radials at 128+ is the pretty realistic goal. Have been keeping a close eye on other similar turbo cars and this should be a safe target without bursting my bubble and getting totally depressed. As long as I have a higher trap speed (HP baby!) than my buddy N2OJnky, life will be good. If I'm slower I will have to pour ketchup and mustard in his gas tank till we are at least even.

That's the plan for next year!!!

Can we assume that the various tracks will honor these changes or do some tracks apply their own rules?

hahaha, i've said i was going to race my stang since i was 15, but now if i can actually get out to the track, i would at least like to run a 16 with a bum tanny and a stock tired 289.

All of the tracks I've been to have been NHRA tracks, which means these new rules will apply. Some may not be aware of them though, so it never hurts to have a current rulebook handy, They should be available some time in januray.

Now that i am getting used to this internet stuff I am going to post for myself. My plansfor this year is to spray my 499cid until the heads come off. Pretty much just to destroy as many mustangs as possible. If i seem a little mean right now it's because of the captain.

Hopefully my new engine and turbo will get me there

I like this new 11.49 rollbar thing..........a rollbar in a minivan just wouldn't be cool
