I just did my rear shocks this morning... my old ones were shot! I put in some new "monrowe" shocks (don't remember if thats how you spell it" from advanced autoparts... It was the best ones that they had in stock at the time... 5 star rating for $28.00 bucks for one... Took about a hour to do and next week im going to do my front struts... because there shot as well...

very very simple to do your self... only two bolts...

did notice a big improvement on ride quailty... there not bad for the money! i just needed something now, and i didnt want to wait on someone ship me some!

Awesome man! The front shocks arent as easy, but they're okay. Haha the last time I changed front shocks I had to Sawzall the &^%$i'n shock tower off because the nut was turning with it... use an impact if you have one

Yes you absolutely need an impact... don't try to do it without one. It is pretty easy, you just have to remove a few things, like the brake rotor. Good luck.

LMAO!

If you don't have an impact, just drive to the suspension shop and have them hit the strut nuts for you so they are broken loose. Drive home (carefully and under the speedlimit) and then get to work... Seems like the hardest part of the swap would be those top strut nuts.

Should have done it the other way around...save the easy for last I remember I tried my struts without an impact...bad idea. I used a huge flat-head screwdriver in the center of the strut and tried to wrench it loose...snapped the blade and put a 4 inch gouge in my fender Ended up taking the whole assembly down to Schucks and used their POS electric impact...took three tries and a lot of penitrating oil but it came off

You didnt get the monroe formula GP struts, did you? if you did, prepare to take them back for exchanges... frequently.. those things ( on every car ive seen them on) leak severely within a year or so... i worked at advance, and did a ton of exchanges on those things

It's one of those things you don't realize how bad they were until you change 'em.

If you got them and they ARENT leaking, you are one of the fortunate ones.. i worked at advance for about a year, and probably had about 50 pairs returned in that time... just something to watch for

The Monroe GPs used to be good. I guess the quality has gone down in recent years. I guess it's time for Bilsten's or Koni's.

Nope i got Monroe Sensa-trac with safe-tech systems Part # 5845

there not gas - the guy didnt want to sell them to me... said they leaked etc..

also just went out to pop off my top bolt on the struts and both came off no problem... just wanted to see if my impact could get it off! so im good to go there

When did they start making Formula GP again? I bought a complete set of them from Saleen probably 12 years ago. They used to put them on some of the Saleens. They are still on the car and working fine. I know they quit making them quite a while ago. Did they start making them again?

Lil update... just did the front struts! little bit of a pain but not bad to do... got the top nut off no problem but the bottom bolts wouldnt come off.... i broke two sockets and bent two breaker bars! only way i got them off was to heat them up... and got a stronger breaker bar and bam they came loose! both sides were like that! havent gone for a ride... but the right side was orginal strut and left they replaced? but it should be good to go now!
