Also, the tranny has internal shift stops, so you really don't need an aftermarket shifter, and on top of that the review by 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords said the 500's shifter felt as good as any aftermarket. I don't even thing there's a shifter on the market for that tranny yet.

I think it has the same bolt pattern as the old TKO's, but I'm not sure. It's true, it has internal gear stops, just like all the big Tremecs do. That doesn't mean they don't all need a different shifter to protect the internals, it only means they don't need one to protect the gears from over engagement. Those stops do nothing for all the linkage between the shifter and the gears, which are still subject to big time shock loading. It's for this very reason that Steeda (much as I hate to plug them ) have developed a positive stop kit for the TTC shifter that comes on it.

I called Tremec and they told me the TKO and the TKO 500/600 have different shifters and no one makes one yet. He told me the stops are good but not good for banging gears, but there is a company that makes a kit that installs stops like on most shifters. I'll be ordering one before I go racing.

The companies number is 1-800-771-6843 can't remember the name.

As it turns out, TTC has just let the cat out of the bag about their new 500/600 shifter. It's made for them by Hurst.
The only reason that it doesn't include adjustable positive stops is that many people don't know how to set them properly. The rumors about them being bad for Tremecs and blowing them up has nothing to do with the stops themselves, or the inherent need for them- but rather in common incompetence. If they are set too close, it prevents the gears from fully engaging. Well, of course that will cause a problem! So basically they stupid-proofed it, and hope you won't pound it too hard. BTW, that piece of info strait from TTC, not just my opinion.
