well me and my friends just got done installing a vortech S-trim on a friends 1995 cobra. well we started it up and it idled at about 400 rpms and the supercharger was making a noise like u could hear the gears .. so we bumped up the idle to about 800 rpms and you can still hear the gears it just doesn't sound right so we took the idle up at 1000 rpms and the gear noise went away and then it would whistle like we thought it was supposed to ... Is this how its supposed to sound?

kit new or used?

regardless, id call the tech line for a potential warranty issue.

The kit is brand new and he got it from cj pony parts .. we'll be calling tech tomorrow.

They are going to make noise no matter what. Like a whistling type sound.

well he wanted a loud supercharger and got the gear driven one but it just didn't sound right ... we hope its getting enough oil we squeezed the oil line and there was warm oil going through so idk

Yeah, its going to sound like gears meshing together at lower rpms... cuz that is exactly what it is. The wistle comes in later as impellar speeds approaches boost...

Ive had the blower on my car for 20,000+ miles and at idle it just sounds like a gear box.. get in it a lil and it whistles.. a little more and ur sideways

also how hot do these superchargers get ... my friend took it out for a 20 minute ride then parked it and said the supercharger was soo hot it would burn you if you tried to touch it.

Have you or your buddys ever heard another supercharger in person? Does this one sound different?

The vortech has straight cut gears (assuming he didn't get the sq) and it will sound like there are rocks in the head unit at idle. Once it spins faster then it gets quieter. As fr the heat, it has engine oil lubricating it, therefore it will be about the same temparture as the engine oil. I am willing to bet it is just fine but a new experience to you and your friends.

15 seconds, producing 10 psi from a V1S trim gets air discharge temps upwards of 230* F. The blower casing itself during that time is considerably hotter. So yeah... they get warm.

By the way... you can cook a whole chicken in 1 hour's time at that temp in a convection oven. lol
