I just picked up a new V1 radar detector with concealed display. I already hard wired it and have my concealed display between the speedo/tach. Dectector is just to the right of the rear view (Will post pics tommorow). This is my first detector, so some of these questions might be dumb:

1) what mode do you guys usually run it in. I am running Advanced logic, and the other options default. I think I was false alarming on some signal lights (with photo enforcement camera for red light runners) and/or automatic door openers. It was counting 3 bogies on multiple bands at this single intersection.

2) If I add 5% tint strip on top of the windsield will the detector still work OK. (and does the tint look OK over the dots)

3) Should I edit the advanced options, like remove X band? do cops still use X band radar?

4) VG2? pointless? detectors are legal here. I dont think the V1 has VG2 shielding

i have an escort (passport 8500 x50)
but i will say that i have never had a cop use x band near me, Rarely i'm near one running K, Ka on most all patrols around my area.
Use it for a few days with nothing turned off, getting a feel for what a good detector does and doesn't pickup is interesting.
mine has vg2 immunity according to the box!? :WTF:

Removing X band if purly dependent on where you live. Once in a blue moon, I will get hit with an X band by a rouge sherriff. Since you are a new owner to the the club, I would suggest you leave it in All bogeys mode to get a used to all the different situations you will encounted with your new found power. Be advised, laser will still sting you, everything else, you will see the cop far before he ever sees you. Mine goes off more then 2 miles away with the guy is blasting his radar.
And when you come up to a photo enforced light, its doing its job by going off, there are radars running 24/7, but they are weak. The tint will weaken the sensetivity of the detector by a good amound. Not advised to mount it behind the tint. Mine is mounted above the rear view mirror.

VG2 is the rader detector detector that cops use on truckers. Since it is illegel for commerical vehicles to run radar detectors. The VG2 helps defend against that. Also the magnesiumn case on the V1 helps with that too. If you put your x50 right along side a V1, the V1 will pick up the X50, but the X50 won't pick up the V1.

Is it easy to conceal the wires under the headliner? Then where does it go?

yes the detector will still work with 5% tint but it will severly hurt your range with it. most places do not use X band radar cause its so old but there may be some really small towns that will use it way out in the country if they do not have the money for k or ka bands.

yea and dont worry about shielding if they are legal where you are. i live in virginia and got the new beltronics sti driver cause its immune to all otherwise i would have gone with a gps based one like the new passport 9500i.

from what i have found is x band really is not used anymore at all except by door openers or motion sensors in buildings. k bands are used sometimes by CVS and mainly the county mounties. KA is generally your state troopers or your sheriffs. KA band is a superwide band so it can cover many lanes of traffic and is more accurate and has a longer range than does a K band.

yes the V1 handles burst of radar. It pickes it just fine. Just be sure you are not the one in front. Same with laser.

The power wire tucks under the headliner, you dont need to remove anything

Yes it is,
on mine i did purchase the smartcord hardwire kit,
i have the remote mute coming out of the "coin" holder.
My selection for the power supply was the led power wire for the traction control button so it is a Key On- only operation

also, the nice thing about the V1 is I also got everything I needed to hardwire it included. So I have a spare cigarette lighter adapter I can keep in another car. I got mine directly from valentine1.com (fleabay dealers were all selling $100+ over what direct from V1 sells for )

I also got the info on VG2. 99% of radar detector detectors scan for a certain frequency put off by most detectors. Valentine 1 operates on a different frequency, so it is not detectable by these scanners (it has nothing to do w/ the case). The newest radar detector, detectors can scan for the V1 frequency, but very few of these scanners are in use.

X band is old technology not used in many states now. Some door openers still maybe operate on this. Most grocery store/ store openers use K Band.

X band is so old mostly only OLD small country town still use this type of radar. If you get this alert just slow down to an slower speed, but dont be to alert because i bet its only a false.

vg2 is not useful if you live in a place where detectors are legal. IN MY OPINION (yes, there legal, but jammers arent so dont get that confused).

^^ I live in illinois and there legal here but anything mounted on the windshield is illegal, but i dont have a problem.

If you get an KA alert slow down and be alert..

If you get an Laser alert and your speeding BADLY .. JUST PULL OVER AND TURN YOUR HAZARD LIGHTS ON BECAUSE YOUR CAUGHT. EVEN the v1 cant protect you from laser because its so fast at getting your speed.

Welcome to the club, i have a V1 in every vehicle i own and love them. I operate in "A" All Bogey mode and after a few weeks you will know exactly where all the false alarms are and know when its a real signal.
