just changed oil 200 miles ago. should i change my plugs? any benefit to be be had? what about tranny fluid?

It wouldn't hurt to change your tranny and rear axle fluid. You spark plugs should be o.k., but then again it isn't a bad idea either considering they don't cost that much.

the book says to do the transmission at 30k miles. but if you want to change it go ahead, its cheap even if u use synthetic. i personally go by time instead of miles. i do the trans fluid, coolant, p/s fluid, plugs, filters every year. the diff fluid is supposedly lifetime, but thats gonna come out in a few weeks.

i bought my car used at 36 k on the clock. it now has alomst 50. anyway to tell if these fluids have been changed with out calling the dude up and asking him? He does not know he is real old. also what does it cost to change these fluids. Price of product plus labor and all of that what not.

a dealer will bend you over to do it. i think you need to buy 2 quarts for the transmission, that shouldnt cost more than $12 if you are using a good synthetic fluid. i get coolant from costco for $13 for 2 gallons of prestone. you can add water wetter to it and thats about $7 a bottle. the diff fluid should cost about $7 a quart, so you need 4 of those. also there isnt a gasket on the diff cover so you either need to buy one, or make you own like the dealer will tell you to do with some black RTV. for the power steering, use mobil 1 synthetic ATF and you should get a few bottles of that to make sure it flushes completely. now if you did it at the dealer, they would charge you $130 to do the coolant flush, $130 to do the trans fluid change, probably $130 to change the diff fluid, and another $130 to flush the power steering fluid.
