Just installed my UPR O/R X-pipe....OMFG!!! Wow.....

I have the exact same setup, but it only took me and a buddy about 3 hours for the install plus mil elimin. We got lucky.

AS far as the sound goes, I agree 100%. A lot of people on here think you either have to spend a fortune for your X or not use 2 chamber flows, but I find the combination sounds just as you described.

I theorize it could be the metal washers that came with the pipe, that was used in bolting the pipes together, which could be vibrating against the metal pipe or something. I like a little rasp, which is part of the reason I went with the X, but in some instances it gets out of hand. Aside from the rasp, the sound is really awesome, it gives an awesome angry howl that I haven't heard on any other car. Would wrapping the pipe in header wrap help anything? Any other thoughts?

I should have read through all the posts before I mnade my first post. Sorry to hear you're having trouble, I have no idea why it would sound worse the day after. If anything, mine sounds better since it has had time to "season." AS far as your mils go, are you sure you taped them up good and used some of that shirnk -wrap wire insulation (the kind you heat up) to totally seal your mil elims? If they get any water or anything on them , they will foul.

Well, I just my car back from the tranny shop today. It is plagued now with even more problems, my wheel bearings decided to die out today amoung other things. But anyways,....

The check engine light didn't come on at first. On the way home, it popped on again. The MIL's I bought were $58 through UPR, and they come already wrapped in insulation. I know they clipped in properly becuase I heard that click noise and tugged on them to make sure. Double d'oh.

As far as the sound, I'm loving it. If you give it a quick little revv up to ~2000rpm, it has a stirred/pissed off tone to it. Revv it to 3000rpm and it sounds even more incredible. Cruising around my neighborhood, you can really hear it's echo'ed rumble. It seems like only while the car is under torque (throttle in gear) that I get the rasp. When I revv it, and cruise it's virtually raspless. The unique roar I get totally makes up for the rasp. Yes it gets annoying, but h-pipes to me sound too "run of the mill V8". I have a friend with a '95 Impala SS with longtubes, H, and american thunder catback, and while it sounds awesome, it sounds too "classical" for me. My stang, with the x and flows, sounds more exotic and "stirred" up, versus the more monotone, deep, "classic" tone of the hpipe.

I bought my mil elims from partshoper here on stangnet. I got the cheaper pro3i that you have to wire in, it sounds like you got the more expensive plug and play type. Maybe you have a bad mil elim? Sorry to hear you're having trouble...that always sucks but especially at this time of year.

Congrats on the install. Youve definately put upr on my list of possibilities. I just cant decide between and H or an X. It seems theres been a rash of non working plug in type MIL eliminators. I dunno what it is, ive just read a lot of unhappy posts. Good luck figuring it all out.

Update: The tranny shop cleared my codes for me for free. He just used one of those diagnostic electronic units to tap into the ECU. It read "MIL malfunction" and we cleared it. Hopefully it will stay that way.

As far as the sound goes, I am in love. I think it has cured becuase it sounds awesome. It sounds amazing. The rasp is evident when you apply heavy throttle, but it's VERY worth it. It gurgles and echo's at low RPM, sounds better then probably almost any V8 on the road in the low rpms IMO.

The entire exhaust now has this weird pitch to it. It's an exotic whaling sound that is accomponied by a nice deep burble. The exhaust sounds amazing. It sounds clashy, and very intimidating. Like I said before, no monotone humdrum rumble, but a defined, clashier, more exotic, more echo'ed roar. I'll go back to my first impressions, saying it sounds like a p!ssed off dragon.

Get the UPR x-pipe, and match it with chambered flows. Pure sexiness.
