I have a 98 GT with a Magnapak catback on mine, with just the catback it is louder than your stock. but not so loud that it will wake everyone up, i now have an offroad h and it is awesome sounding you cant beat the sound of magnaflows, either way do what you want man it your car.

I'd like to see 20 rwhp out of a catback. And i said just catback, not other bolt ons. I know plenum and t/b get 4-10 rwhp, but the combo of doing both can give you innacurate readings on what is making power.

Unless you have upwards of 300 rwhp the catback by itself won't make a huge difference. It is mostly a sound mod under that HP #. The midpipe is the bigger restriction. That is why I went with weld ins. When I do a blower I will probably do a full catback.

That's what I'm thinking. That's a lot of HP from those simple bolt ons. I must be doing something wrong. Dem some impressive numbers you got there out of those bolt ons. Lets see, 20rwhp. That adds up to about 30-35HP. And 28rwhp from a ported TB and catted xpipe, that's up to about 35-40HP at the fly. Oh, so I can just port a TB and get not an O/R xpipe, but a catted one, and with those 2 bolt ons I'll be making about 300HP. Wooow.

there is some truth to it. rember every year ford changes something on the exhaust setups more cat more packed mufflers and such.... so there are cars that will crack out the high hp numbers when they do catback and plenum mods.
not every car is the same, there are car that dont repond well to mods for some reason. and then there are the batch that do repond and fly on the dyno.

also depends on the type of dyno that was used in the test?
now was it hp to the wheels or through the crank?

** edit

truth be told the only real dyno out there is the drag strip with times. if the et drops after the mod then its worth it.

2 1/2 will outflow 2 1/4, hands down. More flow= more power. Its like people who say LTs are not "required" until 400RWHP. Just because you can get away with a stock piece for a while, doesnt mean an aftermarket part wont help currently."An engine is an air pump, the faster you can get the air in and out, the more power you will make." With the stock catted H, you wont see much from a CB....but once you open the mid pipe up (O/R pipe), that when you will see some HP...IE around 6-8. I persanally felt VERY little from my CB, but they have been dynoed on machs and gained 9RWHP. A mag tested a stock 03GT with the stock CB, then switched to an SLP CB (did 3 pulls on each to make sure the #s were consistent) and gained 9RWHP. Same conditions BTW.

Remember, more flow doesn't always = more power. Some backpressure is good. Other wise we would all run 4" piping.

fellas weve gone off topic a lil bit i say if youre on a budget go with the weld ins.

i may be mistaken but there may be mangapack and loudmouth packs that may be offered in weld in form......... instead of the flowmasters

Do a search for the catback performance article on here or maybe MD. Borla Pro XS mufflers were rated as producing the most horsepower while also being the quietest among the ones tested. I found them online, 2 for $154 shipped plus $110 installation, $254 total. Knowing that Steeda uses the Borlas and their catback is 500+, you can save a lot of money by just doing the mufflers, unless money is no object. Take a look at that stock muffler and you will see that the aftermarket muffler is a lot more responsible for the gains than the bigger, smoother piping.

I have my stock H yet, and it is noticeably a different tone. Not loud at idle, but when you got on it, it is louder than stock. Sounds like a good fit from reading your posts. My next mod is the MRT catted H, not going to touch the headers.

I love my Steeda cat-back, standing behind it at idle is very deep and loopy sorta I'm glad I went with it. I like the tips also, so pretty I did all my exhaust at once and I didn't go cheap on anything, and I'm very glad I didn't. It was worth every penny to replace everything to me

White-04,
you said something about the catback performance article. I did a search and could not find it. Is there anyone out there who can point me toward it? Thanks.

I should have said, not the 'full' article, just an excerpt from it.
