well finally after owning a bone stock 97 cobra for 3 weeks i ordered up my first mod.

-I got the mac catback. 2.5" with 3" tips. part no. TK9625

my questions is can i just bolt this catback together with no leaks or should i get it welded up after its all put together?

i havnt ordred my mid pipe yet which will be a o/r x pipe. will this system be pretty quiet with the stock h pipe in? i have heard one with o/r x and sounded really good and loud. but no one with the stock mid pipe.

how much hp increase will this mod give on a stock healthy motor? im guessing 4-6 rwhp?

it will bolt up to your existing exhaust with no welding needed. thus why we call most of these smaller mods "Bolt Ons"

as far as gains, probably enough to register on the butt-dyno. with a full open exhaust (o/r midpipe and catback) id expect no more than 10whp if your stock cats were/are really restrictive/clogged.

I would expect 3-5 rwhp if that.

Honestly, I would be getting gears 4.10 or 4.30's, Shifter, A decent mid pipe before anything else. Those gears will wake that car up a lot and it will feel like you gained 50 hp.

I have a Dynomax 2.5" o/r x pipe with the MAC 3" catback with 3.5" tips on my 99. With your stock catted midpipe it won't be bad but once you remove those cats the sound is going to double or triple. I hope you like loud! lol But it sounds good not just loud with no tone.

MAC and o/r anypipe is LOUD!! hehe.

An the MAC is all bolt together true fit stuff. I like their catbacks You can take off your tail pipes in a matter of minutes and the pipes from the muffler dump over the axle for a really different and tough sound. MY notch sounds great like that.

Exhaust will not get you anything like a set of gears will whether you race or not. Trust me been there done that for years. But it's your car.

The car will be faster and a blast to drive. Go ride in a stock geared cobra and then ride in one with 4.10's or 4.30's and you will see exactly what I mean. Gears are known to be the biggest bang for the buck in NA performance. I am not here to persuade you. I stopped trying that to people 2 years ago. Just offering a tidbit of information that you may not already know.
