Just purchased a 65 fastback.

As far as the ground wire, mine is now bolted to the bellhousing and to the brake master cylinder. Anywhere that is non-painted and that connects the motor to the body is what you're looking for.
As P.I. said, check the timing too. Mine is at 12* and can be hard to start when warm sometimes. It always started fine at 10* though.

Well I did the compression test... I looked at the plugs and they were all good, but black. I'm guessing it's burning oil. Every cylinder had about 95-100 on the compression test. I believe 120 indicates a good cylinder. I looked at the carb, the number i found was 4772-2. The intake is an Edelbrock Torker. I don't know if that helps any. The carb has dual fuel inlets, one one the front and one in the back, if that helps indicate the carb I have. The car doesn't seem to smoke as much as it did, but it still has the starting problem. The first time i go to start it, it fires right up...but after that I have to driftstart it if I want it to run. My plans so far are as follows:

1) Make an engine to body ground wire
2) Petronix Electronic Ignition
3) New starter if problem persists
4) Eventually, either a rebuild or a 302 from a fox body
