Just purchased upgrades

Today I just bought a Cortex Superchip tuner, K&N CAI, 4.10 motorsports gears from a performance shop here in TX. After taxes I paid 1080 dollars. My questions are: Are these good products? (Since the owner recommended them) and is the price decent? (This does not include labor). Also in training atm so have no time to learn or place to do the filter myself. My apartment doesnt allow work on vehicles on property.

I paid 525 for a JLT intake /SCT X3 combo brand new and gears(not including labor) are not much money. To me it sounds like its a couple hundred bucks over priced. Keep in mind I am not familiar with the tuner you described. I don't think too many people use the combo that you bought but I'm sure it will work well but problably not as much gains as some of the more popular brands (SCT,Diablosport,JLT,C&L etc) and gears are always a good addition.

i do not like the k&n filter because they are a little greasy, and i've heard them giving the MAF a false reading because of the grease spraying on it and coating it. i know it threw a code for one of my old coworkers and she brought it to the dealer and they told her exactly what i said.

if you mean ford motorsport 4.10s, i'd say they are a good product.

the superchips tuner is what a local shop recommends, but i see alot of people switching to a SCT or Diablo tuner, and getting alot more gains. the Superchips isn't too adjustable, compared to an x3, or diablo.

That does seen overpriced, gears are 150-180 depending where you look (labor not included) and a proven jlt intake/sct tuner is 549. So yea if you can return I'd do it and order from somewhere else.

I almost exactly did what you did. Superchips and the K&N. Then I ended up getting the SCT. Much better. And even with both the tuners, the K&N and some gears, I'm at like 1150. So I think you paid a little much.

I just bought a JLT tuner/SCT tuner combo, but mine was painted and I bought it form the actual JLT site and it was a little less than 600. I doubt you got ripped on price, but personally I would have gone with better products. Not putting you down at all, just if Im spening the money I am gonna get the best and what I know is good for the car. So with the 4.10 I would have gone with Ford Racing and you need to spend the money and have them installed correctly (best bet it ford, but some performance shops do really good work as well). K&N isnt bad nor is the cortex tuner I just know too many people that prefer JLT and Ive talked to a lot of tuners and they all say they like SCT because its easier to work with and from what theyve said a better tuner than the diablo and others. The inrake you should be able to do within 20 minutes or so. It takes a couple screws and a couple bolts and thats about it.

But no you did not get ripped off I dont think.
Ill be paying
200 (cheap site) for my ford racing gears not installed
580 (from jlt) for tuner and intake

so thats 780 w/ taxes

I know the K&N intake is cheaper on sites, so you paid a little too much for a little cheaper parts, but if thats what you want and you got it fast then be happy Just like I said if it was me this is the way Id go

Well I will probably buy an sct tuner. I just got the gears in and they are frpp gears. And a ford mechanic is installing them for me. I didnt think the K&N CAI was that bad. What would be a better intake in your opinions. I guess I should of asked was just excited to get the upgrades.

C&L Racer hands down.

i dont mind the k&n drop in filters. i think they are a fine replacement for stock without switching to a performance intake. i don't like the complete units though. for the money there are much better quality intakes. hell, the c&l racer is the same price as the k&n. hm. autozone performance or actual performance brand. hm.. haha.

You have to remember... Your local performance shops are not internet price whores. You will ALWAYS pay more for face to face service and the conveinance of a local shop. Sure it's more then you could have got it online... But you did get it that day with (hopefully) great face to face customer service.

I'll pay an extra hundo to have it in hand hassle free with a handshake..

I say the gears will make the biggest difference in the car feeling faster. Unless you like the look of a CAI, save your money and only get the SCT tuner and a custom tune ($380). The tune will help throttle lag, make shifts better in autos, and help add a few HP. Do not forget to take out the hydrocarbon trap if there is one on your stock intake. The money you save on the CAI ($275-325) can fund other mods like tires, shifter, suspension, or supercharger. Just my 2 cents.

Agreed but in this case the product being sold is not up to par, IMO.
