Ok so first does anyone have one? I have read a lot about them and think they sound like a great mod. Weight off the front for a closer to 50/50 split, weight off the car at all, stiffer for better handling, etc. It all makes sense but why doesn't everyone and there brother have them? Thanks for your thoughts and comments:SNSign:

because it is not as glamorous as a 30 hp cai/tune combo. most people are more into power numbers than weight savings at this point in time.

it is on my list, but i have a few things to get before i will buy a k member.

less weight equals better time slips and even if you wanted to go there fuel economy though right?

yep.

plus more clearance for aftermarket parts such as exhaust and some forced induction systems (remote turbo).

Also some aftermarket K's are actually stiffer than stock, while still being lighter. Geometry over mass. Meaning better handling even over what is gained by the diet.

But have you ever hit a curb or speed bump with a aftermarket K-member? That single tube doesn't stand up to the daily abuse that the stock unit does.... Weight is one thing, but durability during a crash or off-road excusion is another.

Not saying I don't like them becuase a light weight front end is great... I just don't like them on a street car.

but we are all perect drivers, and this never happens to mustang owners

seriously, for someone who actually takes their time and scans the road while driving/parking, then there should not be any issues with daily abuse. think about it like a set of rims. if you are careful and pay attention, then you dont get curb rash. for those that just dont pay attention/dont care about a vehicle, they have trashed front passenger side rims. its all in how you take care of your car.

does anyone know what the clearance is between stock and aftermarket k members?

also, FWIW, the stock front crossmember (lower radiator support brace) is about $200, and the rear (engine support crossmember) is about $265. thought i would throw those prices out there for comparison. i know someone was thinking about the cost of OEM replacements.

Is there a difference between the BMR and Granatelli K-member. And I live in a very speed bump infested anrea, would this be a problem with an aftermarket K-member? If it's stronger and stiffer shouldn't take more abuse and be a upgrade over the stock piece in the abuse department? Not trying to call anyone out, just don't know and want to try and get everything out of what I have (hp wise) as I can.
