K&N Air Filter + Silencer Removed.

I know that most us do this as a first cheap mod. I haven't done this yet but i'm gonna do it this spring...

But, one of my friend told me that with a k&n filter and stuff, the gas consumation goes up alot cuz they send a 'ritcher' message to the computer cuz of the mass air...

is that true ? and, does the sound of our exhaust changes alot with that ?

that's some newbies questions but nobody really answered me cleary on that..

it uses up less gas. i know cause i had it in my 95GT, and the exhaust sound will hardly be affected.

I actually gained about 1mpg once I did the same, which may not seem like much. However, it definitely did not hurt my gas mileage.

If you're real interested in maximizing gas mileage, make sure you you've got a good tune (plugs/wires/cap/rotor/fuel filter), good O2's, cleaned injectors, and use the correct gas grade. On the obvious side, keeping a regular eye on tire pressure along with a good alignment and tire balance (helps car roll smoother w/least resistance).

Major brand gas stations have lots of additives already in their gas to help keep injectors clean. However, a bottle of cleaner every few months probably won't hurt, but not too often. I'd stay away from oil additives. I've tried most of them and had no positive or negative effects at all, but some have had bad experiences.

Exhaust sound change......nope. You can hear a little more airy sound under the hood, but nothing major. My exhaust sound didn't really change until I added the X pipe.....completely different sound now.

Good luck. (Check out your gas mileage for a few weeks before doing the upgrade and then for a while afterwards to see what difference it made)

an off road h-pipe won't hurt your gas mileage either any exhaust or CAI intake modifatations should help your gas mileage by makeing the combustion more efficent

That's what i tough when that dumb guy said that about my o\r h-pipe... once it's in the exhaust, the gas has already combusted.. anyway this guy is a bit dumb it hink..

I wouldn't say dumb, most people lost a mpg or 2 after exhuast becuase of that added fun of driving it hard, also you will tend to shift less and keep the rpms up and downshift more all of this will hurt your mpg, but if you drive your car the same your mpg will go up....its just alittle harder to drive it the same if you knwo what i mean

If you are looking for a filter, I have one with about 500 miles on it. I didn't need it any more after I installed the CAI. PM me if you do. I will sell it cheap.

Pay attention. I'm not going to sugar coat things like these other guys.

"You WILL LOSE MPG!" Why? Because you can't keep your foot out of the gas pedal trying to feel that 5HP (filter) or 15HP (filter & O/R H-pipe). This is not a hobby or a sport, it's an ADDICTION! Get use to that fact. "Torque" is the manufacture, "speed" is the dealer, and you my friend, you is the new "junkie" on the block. Welcome.....

Of course if you moderate your driving your mileage could improve. I measure my mileage by number of gas stations I stop at....Good luck

lol, sad but true, anyway, i think the extra $ in gas is worth the sound of an off-road h-pipe
