2006 GT Mustang

I just installed a K&N aircharger and it seems as if I lost some throttle response. The rest of my car is stock. Does anyone have any idea what the problem may be? Thanks!

Did you get a tuner and retune the ECU with it? I really don't know what I am talking about so hopefully someone will come along and correct me, but without a customized tune for it, you are mixing in more air than typical. I believe that may be your problem, but I'd wait for someone who knows what they are talking about can tell you for sure. Good Luck!

I was led to believe that the K&N aircharger didnt require a retune but maybe it does.

I have another question. Can you still retune the car even though its not required with the K&N??

The K&N aircharger DOES NOT require a retune, although if you wanted to get even better performance out of it ? it would surely help but the K&N was designed to run with the factory stock tune..I would recommend that if your having throttle issues ? disconnect your postive battery terminal for 20min. or so and then after reconnecting ? turn your key to the on position but DO NOT START IT then slowly depress the accelerator pedal until fully reaching the floor then slowly release it until you hear a slight click or humm like the sound of the fuel pump activating before starting the vehicle..and then turn the key to the off position, then start the vehicle and take a test run and hopefully that should help ? However if it doesn't ?? I would recommend you contact K&N technical support, their 800 number should be listed along with your aircharger instruction manual..

Retune

Thanks for the reply. I know one of the ways to retune the computer is by using the predator or diablo. Is there any other to do it besides the tuner. If it seems like a dumb question please excuse me. Can it be done at any mechanic shop.

the 2 most popular tuners are the SCT XCAL2, and the diablosport predator. there are others, just not as popular.

and no, your mechanic cannot help this car without a retune.

As someone else said it works without a tune. I installed a K&N a month back and have had no problems with it. With the factory tune. I gained power, and 2 mpg on the highway. No bad issues. 5.0 mustang and ford magazine did a cold air kit comparison a while back, one of the tested Kits was the K&N. They tried it with and without a tune. Gained 18 hp without a tune. The link to the article is below. I'm not sure why you would be having problems.

I'm the somebody else you were referring to, so guilty as charged :rlaugh: Anyway as I previously mentioned the K&N aircharger was designed to run on the stock tune, so a re-tune isn't required although if your looking for even better performance and throttle response ?? a reflash sure wouldn't hurt lol.

Make sure that the K&N's clamps and the MAF sensor are fully tightened, the vacuum line just before the throttle body is reattached, and the MAF sensor did not lose its O-ring.
If they're ok, and red05bullitgt's excellent suggestions do not fix things, then reinstall the stock intake. If the problem goes away, then the cause is the K&N.
