I have the K&N Aircharger CAI setup on my '06 GT. It's OK, but I doubt it is the best for max HP. From what I read, the CAI/tuner package from Brenspeed is the best bang for the buck.

or buy one of the three that are in the classifieds right now There's a JLT, a C&L racer and a C&L street. All with Diablos I believe...

I believe the JLT made the most power and then C&L was 2nd by like 2-3 hp.

IMO I think the tune and the higher octane give you most of the power right off. Once you make more mods that use that extra air coming in is when you will see more benefit from it. Still it's worth it though if you have the extra money, but if you already have the K&N then save your money and just buy a handheld from a reputable tuner and you will see a big difference

Yes you will, I just bought and installed an SCT/SF3 with the 93 octane tune on my completely stock 06 GT, and let me tell you what a difference, and as a Member (ViperNuge) said to me, and I'll say to you too,
Your poor tires!!!!!

Best of Luck

so let me get this straight...

You buy an intake, have an exhaust (axleback or whatever) and the best option is to get a handheld "plug-n-play" ECU thingamajig with pre-loaded maps for which help you get the best A/F ratio. So, effectively no need for a dyno tune?

I am no expert by a long shot, BUT, I think having a dyno tune is probably the best thing you can do because your car is on the dyno and they can see exactly what works best for your car as they do it and can make any adjustments needed to get the most power, I know a mechanic that recommended a shop I could take my car to, to have it dynoed, he said for like 500$ they would do like 3 dyno pulls, making the necessary adjustments each pull to get the optimal performance out of my engine, where getting something like an SCT/SF3 or a Diablo etc....you're not really going to see in real time (like you will on a dyno) if you are getting the very best optimization for YOUR engine, I have the SCT/SF3 93 tune and my car runs like a beast now, however, I do not know if I had it dynoed if I could have gotten a tad more power or not, again I'm very new to the S197's and I may not be correct here, BUT, this is the impression I get.

I should say this, I know Companies like SCT (Bama) Diablo, etc....dyno test their tunes and will custom build your tune according to the modifications you have done to your car, I would imagine its just not the same as having YOUR rear wheels spinning their dyno, I would think every car is a bit different (even bone stock like mine) and having YOUR car on a dyno would be the best way to ensure the tune you're getting is whats best for YOUR car.

Hopefully I am not giving false information, if I am wrong I apologize in advance.

Best of luck

You are correct, both of you Yes a dyno tune will be the most effective. However unless your car is done modding or unless you are putting a serious power adder on there then handhelds are fine with either the tunes in the device or getting an email tune. I suggest an email tune as they are better overall for your car than the tunes that are preloaded. Brenspeed and Bama have very good tunes and load the handhelds with their tunes. Tillman also has preloaded, but I can't get their website to work atm.

Another factor is if you are going to stay N/A for a while and just do little mods here and there then a handheld is nice because email tunes are 50-75$ rather than hundreds for a dyno tune to take advantage of those mods, but you could always save and do them all at once and it might be about the same. It is up to you in the end what your preference is

If you buy the SCT/SF3 from American Muscle for 379.99 you will get free tunes for life I just bought one and I had them customize the 93 octane tune a bit for me, and in the near future when I get the 410 gears I also had them go ahead and do a 93/410 tune, so when I get the gear and have them installed all I have to do is plug in the Tuner and install the 93/410 tune

If and when you buy one, be sure to let them know what mods you have done to the car at that time so they can set an 87, 91, 93 tune (which ever you want) to best optimize the tune for the mods you have, and if you're stock at the time and say you buy a CAI in a month, you just call them and tell them you just bought a CAI, they will pull your file, add the CAI to the tune and EMAIL you the tune, FREE!! FOR LIFE So all the mods you do in the future you just call them and they will adjust the tune for each mod you do and EMAIL them to you FREE.
