My car was due for a new air filter and I am currently budgeting funds for a house and wedding ring...so I have plans of eventually doing the tuner JLT combo down the road but for now I thought the K&N drop in would do me untill then...However before I mention the following I must say I love their products and have sworn by them with my previous vehicles....but I had driven from Tucson to Phoenix over the weekend to visit some friends and stopped by an Autozone in Scottsdale to by the filter...no problems there they had like 4 of them anyway went out and put in the filter and mind you it was around 245pm in the afternoon and well into the triple didgets outside and the car fired right up...sounded great too...pulled out into traffic and just when the car shifted into second poof no power...yea the engine just shut off no limp mode or anything....nothing. I managed to roll into another parking lot and tried to start it up and it sounded like crap and it seemed like only 2 cyls were firing idling around 200rpm really rough. I called roadside which luckily were there in 20 minutes and I had them tow it to Bell Ford about 30 minutes away...

The service centers close at 5pm on Saturdays...we pulled in at 4:35...the service manager said we wont be able to look at it till Monday. So I am already trying to find a ride home and she says well let me have a tech look at it at least so we know if we have to order anything....MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR....ruined by the oil of the K&N....they dropped in a new one and it fired right up needless to say I wondered my ass over to parts and spent 48.57 on a paper Motorcraft filtger and will be returning the K&N tomorrow...Be ware of soiled filters can be a day ruiner...

yep, this is common with many filters. you need to make sure that the filter is not too oiled. many people over oil them also when they clean them. i have a K&N drop in with zero problems.

that is very common. Like bigcat stated many people over oil them. That is weird though that it came over oiled.

Only if the CAI is provable as the cause of the warranty issue, otherwise no.

Disadvantages of Ford's slot in MAF sensor technology

This is just another example of Ford's way, in discouraging owners of the S-197 Mustang, to make it even more difficult, to do any performance mods..Which is one of the main reasons, why I can't stand this new, slot in MAF sensor..They designed it, so the sensor itself, is placed directly inside of the intake housing, instead of the sensor just resting on top of it, like the previous version, from 03-04..Maybe it's just me, but it seems like they changed the design, just to make it even more difficult, for owners to upgrade to high flow filters and CAI kits..What I believe may be the solution, is this.. If there's a way of converting for example, the 90mm Lightning MAF used in the 03-04 Trucks and Mach 1's, then somehow adapt a plug n play wiring harness, for the 05-06..Perhaps then, it could work.. Then, the MAF sensor would no longer be, in any direct contact with filter oil, because the sensor itself, would no longer be inside of the intake housing, to begin with..Anyway, just something I thought of..

don't oil the k&n at all.its been proven the work better when you just hose it off and don't oil it.if you start chcking around there are some dry filters out there that are getting better #s.there was a test done last year and the k&n lost hp.

Oiled Air Filters?

I installed a Green oiled air filter hoping to improve my MPG. (I was getting 18.5 around town). Instead the MPG indicator on my LED read-out started fluctuating from 12-17 MPG. Can anyone tell me what is going on?

Filter

Check it again with another full tank. I have been using K&N's for years in many different cars and I really didn't see much difference, maybe 1 MPG better- definitely should not go down.
