At this point, I have dropped in a K&N air filter. Is there any advantage to removing the 'snorkel'? I realize that maybe more air will be able to flow into the cone, but warm air from the engine compartment? Is it better off this way? Would there be any potential adverse affects? Has anyone done this and 'felt' an improvement? I was just curious. I have also been thinking about dropping $50 or so and buying a CAI on ebay. Any input is appreciated...

Removing the snorkle won't do crap. Won't hurt the car either. I've actually seen cars loose HP on the dyno though simply by removing the snorkle. Invest in a good CAI instead.

I noticed a little difference in exhaust sound minimal, no real gains just removing the snorkle.

Take it off, it can only help get more air in there...and the actual name for it is the "air silencer"...it's supposed to make the air noise coming into the intake tract quieter....

I did it with just a drop in K&N and didn't really notice difference. I'd just say get an CAI or RAI and don't bother taking out the silencer.

I noticed a little difference with the k&n. on my old t-bird also, more air gets through upper powerband. not saying that it is much, but noticeable. put a paper one back in see if you can tell a difference.
