Finally I might have enough money to get a blower. I have been wanting a KB for a couple of years now and I was set on getting one, but I have heard some bad things about their customer service and about their blowers having problems with oil leaks. I read about these problems on stangnet.

I want to know if these things are true.

I would also like to know since KB changed the 1.7L kit to the 2.1L kit if it is as safe to run on stock internals with the new kit, assuming safe tune, and not getting too much Hp. Why did they go with the bigger blower.

Also, I have heard of people buying the Allen supercharge kit. Are they the Eaton blowers and is the Allen kit any good and do they have good customer service.

I want a blower to make less than 400 Hp, so I can keep my stock internals for now. I also want to buy a kit from a company that has good if not great customer service.

Thanks for any and all help

Judging from all the dyno sheets I have seen the KB
will produce more horsepower and torque than the
Allen. They are both good units though.
The KB is more well known too.

The Allen kit is a good reliable kit and Scott @ Allen is a real good guy to deal with. He will look after you. If you are looking for under 400 RWHP and don't plan to upgrade, the Allen is the right kit for you. If you are looking for 400 RWHP but would like to upgrade later, then you should consider the KB.

Exactly:nice: ......This is just my opinion guys and I love the KB too, but.......The Eaton does not produce quite as much horsepower as the KB. The KB is a very well made reliable blower unit. The KB also offers the more traditional top engine mount that looks cool as hell. Most prople can't even find the blower on my car without me showing them. I think there customer service doesn't match up with Allen at all. In my opinion, all you have to ask yourself is what your horsepower goals are. Like you, I don't need to make 400 RWHP either because you will never be the fastest on the street, and I don't run around with the type of people who want to race all the time. My car is a hilarious blast to drive and its not near 400hp. It's reliable, and uses a blower with oem quality. I've had the kit installed for 5 years now, and have had zero problems related to the kit, its fit, or it's operation. Besides, I didn't notice, but if you drive a PI car, you can still make 360-370hp with the Allen set up and a few of the rights goodies, and I have seen on here alot of KB's that only pull that amount of horsepower. I don't know if those people got their situation figured out, or if they even had a problem. On their particular set-up, they might have only made 360 or 370 horsepower with the KB. Every car definately is not the same. Again, it is what your goals are. The M90 Eaton is about maxed out on a V-8 so you are limited if you want to go farther. For me it was more about trouble free operation, reliability, and oem quality and drivability. I wanted the set-up I would have thought Ford might have put in the car if they were so inclined. I guess I was right after seeing what they put in the 03 Cobra.

When i was researching blowers for my car i contacted both of these companies by email and phone. KB never responded by email and good luck getting them on the phone! AED was all over me like stink on doo...I was all set to get the 9psi AED kit when i stumbled on the FRPP kit i found. Like said above...if 350-400rwhp is your goal then roots are fine. If 400 + is your ultimate goal then the KB is a better option.

I have had just the opposite experience with calling Kenne Bell. I have gotten thru just about every time I called, whether the tech line or when buying mine. I love it, have had no problems. And it was pretty easy to install. And like someone else mentioned it looks good replacing that crappy stock intake but is not really noticeable as a supercharger. I love mine, and would highly recommend a KB. Heck, I even e-mailed them one time and they replied to me pretty quickly there too. I guess maybe it's what time you call? I can't answer that. I just know my experience with them has been good.

I too toyed with the KB vs. Allen debate before I bought my blower. KB (when I finally did get a hold of them) wouldn’t give me the time of day after I mentioned to them that the kit wasn’t for a Mustang. Never mind the fact that my ’96 Mercury Cougar was a nearly identical layout to that of a ’96-’98 GT. They couldn’t get me off the phone fast enough when they knew I wasn’t buying one for a Mustang.

As for which is the better blower.....It depends what you consider better? The Kenne Bell will make more power that goes without saying, but it really has less to do with the type of blower it utilizes and more to do with the displacement of said blower. The AED REV II kit utilizes a 4th and 5th Generation Eaton MP90 (depending on how you option it) and will make in the neighbourhood of 350-370rwhp on a stock PI headed Mustang. The Kenne Bell will make about 5-10% more horsepower at the same volume of airflow because of the lower discharge temperatures at higher RPM associated with the used of a “Twin Screw” set up. There’s no question that when pushed to their limits, the 1.7L KB will make more power than the REV II, but keeping them at or under 9psi with utilize nearly identical results. Horsepower results as a whole have got less to do with the Twin Screw being so much more “efficient” vessel of forced induction than the Eaton and more to do with the fact that the Twin Screw used on the Kenne Bell kits utilizes 1.7L of displacement where the Eaton used with the Allen Kits utilizes about 1.35L of displacement. Bigger blower = more peek power. That being said, the smaller blower usually demonstrates a better adiabatic efficiency and drivability rates as slower blower speeds due to the better sealing characteristics of the shorter lobes/screws and their associated lighter rotational mass.

Both are high quality kits. The Eaton has a proven track record of reliability as an OEM blower with almost every major vehicle manufacturer for over 15-years. The Autorotors while they are no means considered “unreliable” are still working out a couple of bugs related to leaking issues.

Allens instruction manual, although complete is considered cliff notes compared to the detailed novel you get with the Kenne Bell unit.

The Allen Kits are cheaper by a few hundred dollars, but the slightly more expensive Kenne Bell rewards you with slightly more horsepower as well (if that’s your line of thinking)

If nothing else, I would recommend buying either blower based on “customer service” alone. Either unit will get the job done, but a strong backing behind their product and willingness to make good for whatever problems that may arise is what’s more important to me.....which is why I bought the blower that I did! :nice:

The only way I get though to KB for service is through the ModularFords website. Emailing them is fruitless. James@KennyBell is on top of things and works hard to work out your issues. Soon (within two weeks) I'll have the results of my full blown kit.

I don't work on it every night and I am a perfectionist for every step.

If they had a kit for the FRRP blower for a 99+ than I would have gotten one already. That blower is exactly what I am looking for, but I can't buy one and play with getting it to work on my car being as my car is my only car. Oh well, maybe someone will buy one and figure out a parts list for all 99+ cars that are pretty much stock.

I guess one day I will bite the bullet and buy a blower, if I ever figure out which one to buy.
