Keep Stang or Corvette?

Just curious what you guys would do.Keep your mustang and mod it, do HCI or forced inudction. or would you sell your stang and put it towards a C5 Vette. it seems the vette does everything better as far as handling, power, gas and one could argue its looks too but it does come with a lil more prestige. LS1 id say is also just as reliable as my 5.0. I just want to hear what others think kuz my friend just picked up one for 17k which isn't bad IMO for what you actually get. If i decide i want one i think ill just stop spending money on the stang and put a regular clutch and rebuild the crappy T5 since its gonna needa be done soon anyways and save money up and later on sell the stang. I got a pretty mint 95 so i think i could get fair price for it so just somthing ive been considering, kuz seems like to make this car fast its gonna cause some headaches in terms of reliability and eat even more gas up

It all depends on how much you want to spend! one major disatvantage though is the wrenching room in the chevy's suck!

Having driven and raced both, I would get a new vette.

Simply put, a C5 is a 13.0 @ 106 car stock (auto w/ shift kit). A set of drag radials would EASILY put a stock C-5 in the 12's, than with exhaust and intake upgrades, mid 12's are possible.

i would go with the vette if you can afford it.

My thoughts exactly! I've thought about this same thing and a couple other cars, but ultimately:

1. my stang is paid for (has been for 5 years)
2. insurance is cheap (even with upgraded coverage)
3. all replacement parts so far are upgrades and/or performance parts
4. cheapest aftermarket/upgraded parts of any car
5. $17K? How about a new 347, some new engine accessories, new Fluidyne, complete suspension, and new front/rear bumpers.
6. I can actually do some wrenching on my stang. Not everything, but enough to keep me from getting screwed on normal maintenance/replacement items. I'd be afraid of hurting the vette, but like said before, not much room to work with.
7. and the best reason............my wife won't let me sell it. She won't drive it, but she likes me to have fun with it.

Of course, if I had a third door on my garage, I'd consider a Vette in a couple years now that I've been at my job for a while. I only have two garage doors, so there's only room for my wife's car and the stang.

I have heard that the insurance on a vette is cheaper than that of a Trans Am or Camaro. (so maybe mustang to) Something to do with rate of accidents and such.

only one way to find out about the insurance and thats to get a quote. im actually considering a vette. my sis wants to buy the stang if i sell it going to come down to 94-95 cobra or 97+ vette, or finish the 69 camaro ls1 project.

My old man had an 03 Z06. I would take that vette over a mustang anyday. Except my mustang, I have too much blood, sweat, and tears into it, not to mention $.

I would keep the Mustang. But thats just me, I dont like the vettes or all chevy's.
If you want one, get it.

imho there are just as many vettes as they are stangs, not to interesting when you see the 9389820403248 vette pass you. If you are happy with your stang now, there is no need to switch cars, but if your not happy then by all means the vette. The only vette that will ever set foot in my garage would be a z06, which is definitely not your average vette.

it all depends in which you enjoy better mang..if you arent happy with the stang pick up the vette..its a vette, you cant go wrong. there will always be opportunities to buy a vette but once you sell your stang its gone (most likely)

I'm so bored of C5's and they're expensive. And for the price of a C6, I'd get a Lotus Elise turbo over that in a heartbeat.

THat might be true since most Vettes are driven by old farts. Although, most Z06s are owned by frat guys.

My two cents. I advise that you go and hang out with some Vette guys. I have. If you aren't a rich, snobby, a-hole, you might not fit in. I'm not saying ALL Vette owners are like that, but you will find more of them per capita than in the Mustang groups. Cars, in general, are more about people and comraderie, than all out performance. Think about it, how much fun would it truly be (and how long would it be truly fun) if you couldn't tell someone about your latest 1/4 or 1/8th mile or road course fun. The car can be "fast as snot" and no fun with no one with whom to talk about it. Maybe more than my two cents. Prolly 10-12 cents. Keep the Stang.

I'm in the same boat as you are but as for me, I won't be selling my stang for another 4 years or so. Hopefully by then I can get an 02+ Z06 for a good price. I just don't have the time and knowledge to work on my car like most of the guys do on this forum, so going newer and faster is the only way to go for me. If that's your case, then go for the vette.

I agree with the comments about it really depending on what you want. The vette is a different type of car (sports vs. pony car), including all the steroetypical tradeoffs. Stock for stock, a vette will handle worlds better, and it does have that LS1 engine.

For me, I have 2 little kids who like to ride in the back. So a vette just wont do. Now I can take the whole family for ice cream in the stang. That's not happening in a 2 seater. Plus I had fun modifying the Stang, and for the price premium on modding vette's, I could never mod one. Seriously, you are looking at 2 grand to do gears on a vette versus $500 for the 3.73's in the stang. Similar price wacko job on tires, and everything else.

But if you want a vette, a mustang will only do for so long. So go with whatever you want. Cause eventually that's where you will end up.

You have a Mustang. There are tons of Stangs on the road.

You get a Corvette. There will be tons of Vettes on the road.


I've noticed this with every car I've owned. When you get it, you notice the other one's on the road. Same goes for almost any car. It seems like there are alot more than you noticed before.

This is totally your decision. But IMO, all Stangs look good .... other than '74-'78's. Even then, I would own a Cobra II. Only the '53-'67 & '05+ Vettes look good to me. The Stangs are just more appealing. But then there's performance. The Vette is a performer. But still, I'd never give up the Stang for a C5. Call me crazy.


I know that doens't help in decision making, lol. Just a personal opinion.
