We are talking 12 or 14# of boost here. I suspect 9# would not be as much of a problem... (less boost less heat)

Like I said before my boost gauge is fubared, it reads 2lb's higher than what it actually is. It will hit 10lb's at 5000 rpm WOT I think the dyno said like 10.2 and thats on the 9lb pulley. She was warm, at least enough to get the oil movin.

Mine also reads 10+ psi for the 9psi kit ! I dunno how accurate the saleen gauge is...
3.55 is probably the best gear for it. I had those in, then went back to 3.27 stock to have less wheel spinning, and decided to go back to 3.55 but will put a T56 in addition next month

The KB kit is just so damn efficient isn't it and I love watching my boost gauge go right to 10lb's instead of waiting for it to come on.

Vortech made more RWH and less TQ. Max boost was only the last few RPM.
Vortech was great at the track. Can really screwup at the start and still end up with 112 or so mph.

Had to wind it up. Never saw the end of the HP.. The more you spin the more HP you get. Around town did not feel the great pull until the upp rpm range.

Not sure the engine likes 7000RPM. (I had the Reichard intake.. )

Now KB. Would not go back even . Instant Boost. Almost square TQ. Head snaping fun... Great for the street. I suspect I will have to learn how to drive at the track now. Going to hold on to the 4:10's until it becomes a problem. With the BFG DR's I atleast have all of my gears above 1st....

Your experience is a great point of reference for Vortech guys going KB.
I really liked your Vortech set-up .... interesting you went away from it.

The Reichard intake allowed Vortech Boost/HP above 6000 rpm.
This inatke was great for those that wanted to spin their rpm upwards of 7000.
Our intake choices for 2V were limited. Not sure I wanted to spend all the money for a bullit.
4:10's made up for the low end TQ. When I was at 390rwh did 12.3 at 115. Never made it the track with the Reichard intake. (441rwh).
The best intake I could find was A KB. Sold my Vortech, Reichard etc. Heard all about the kick-ass low end torque. Went after it.
Even with heat issues at 14# I am glad I did. Once I fix the heat , timming + hp here I go. (Can't wait to see what happens when I do the heads and Cams).

Not sure I understand how people are getting 440 + with 9psi on pump gas. The best the magazine did was 507 (14#, 23degrees of timing, 11:1 A/F,race fuel 100 octane). Unless we are talking Heads /Cams and lowered compression). I also am not sure KB sets 23degrees timing on the standard 9psi @ 91 octane. That would be about 4rwp per degree of timing.

I lost rwh when I went from 14# to 12# with increased timing (22 degrees most of the way). 14# was still better even with conservative timing.

If you add 12rwh per boost thats 500 rwh without Race Fuel.

New guy here. I am just wondering how many of you are doing this on a stock motor? Also how many miles have had it for?

Stock motor. Installed a month ago (about 1K miles so far...I've got a long commute) Loving every minute of the drive.

A stock motor will not see the type of gains being shown here, but if you open up the inlet airflow and the exhaust, have a good tune and use high octane gas you will see mid 400's rwhp with torque to match. If you just throw the KB on a stock motor you'll still see great gains, but I doubt you'll break 400. Check the mods on some of these cars and you'll easily understand why; bigger MAF's, CAI, large TB's, head work, cams, off road crossover pipes, free flowing catbacks... it's a no brainer to expect these types of numbers.

Anyone install one with long tubes and an off road X pipe? I'm about to swap blowers over to the 1.7L KB(just for the low end torque aspect) and was wondering what to expect. I'll be using a 75mm TB(along with 42lb injectors and a 90mm LMAF). Also, does anyone know if I can skip the boost-a-pump if I already have the 03 Cobra tank / pumps.

With the long tubes and the X pipe yous should see higher torque numbers when compred to a compete stick motor. I have both the L/T and the X-Pipe and the low end torque is just amazing.

Thanks for all replys. I guess I should have asked did ya put or are ya gonna put forged parts in the motor? I have read where peeps said that you need forged if your gonna get blown. Thats why I asked. I was leaning to a Vortech SQ untill I saw this thread and now my mind is made up. Kenne Bell all the way

It's very very slight really. You can hardly hear it, and even then only when you're on it.

For sme reason my camera picked up the blower whine, but normally I never hear it over the exhaust, I have never had anyone call me out on it. It is really quiet.

so u can hear it, but its usually canceled out?? Dammnit, I was hoping for complete silence from the blower. I didn't want any indication that my car has a blower on it. well it sounds like its about as quiet a blower were going to find.

It's a twin screw bolted directly to the engine, your gonna get some noise.
Not when your just driving it around. However, it will howl out a bit when you get on it. (it's not that loud at all).

I run 14lbs, 21 degrees (not the KB23), T&J Stage 2 P&P heads, stock cams, 8:1 compression, a built to the hills bottom end, KB BAP, BAS, 42# injectors, ACUFB 75mm TB, 90mm MAF, CAI, 03 pumps/tank, Bassani Quiet thunder catted X & CAT back.

Heat absolutly does make a difference on this blower everybody running it will get the same results. Cold it will make much more power, hot less power.

Would I change it? NO!! No other SC will give you the kick in the pants get up and go like this SC. End of story.. To get it you don't need to kill your engine and run it up past 6K or higher.

Yes, (for those who will ask) I am the one that is using a replacement HE (Heat Exchanger) on a 01 GT. It DOES make a difference, the fans are the trick)
http://www.muscle-mustangs.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=145
Last dyno run inlet temps stayed at 147/148 degrees. (some have seen it as high as 164 with the standard HE.)

Water cooled? Be careful.. If still insisting read this thread.
