Kenne Bell v. Procharger

I was wondering what the big difference is between centri and roots type blowers, ive decided if im going to s/c in the future im going to eather go KB or procharger. Ive kinda ruled out vortech because of the oil issue.

Whats the intercooler like on the procharger? is it built in or separate?

Any other suggestions for superchargers is appreciated..


im just trying to plan out what s/c i might get so i know what type of programmer, gears, etc.. to get now.

(i dont want to do many internal engine work and would like to stay under 8-9psi)

What oil issue are you talking about? Because you have to tap the oil pan thats no big deal...I have a kenne bell and its a royal pain to to change the oil in....I would rec either a keene bell or a vortech.......

i dont know to much about superchargers.. but ive heard the vortech is not self oiling..??

so every type of s/c to you need to tap the oil pan?

no. the procharger and KB do not need any oil pan tapping. I would recommend the KB for a street car.

both easy to install. the KB will have more power down low, where you want it for a street car, and will have roughly the same power up top as a procharger at the same boost level (6 psi). The procharger is a bit cheaper I think.

Gears are something i want to get soon.. should i go with 3.73 if id eventually like to s/c.

if you indeed plan on the KB then 3.73. If you want to go centrifugal then 4.10's are the way to go. The intercooler for a screw style (and roots) sits below the blower itself in the intake manifold. the discharge air from the blower passes through the IC before entering the manifold.

the Kenne Bell is a Screw type charger, not a roots. although they look and are somewhat the same in operation, they actually compress air totally different, the roots blower's rotors compress the air in the lower manifold, while the screw style charger actually compresses the air between the screws themselves, making it a more efficient blower with lower air charge temps. check out KB's website @ www.kennebell.net . they have alot of good info on that site, surf it!

There is a company called Allen that makes a roots style for the 99-04 gt. Also, the Saleen and Roush blowers were roots. You are better off with the KB or Procharger though......................

yea ive looked at that Allen one.. it doesnt look like it worth it considering its almost as much as a KB or PRO.


I see a KB 6psi ( non intercooled) and a 8psi (i/c) is there such thing as a 6psi intercooled or is that possible to do with the 8.

Basically im looking to s/c a stock engine

you can run a 9 psi kit on a stock engine. thats what i'm gonna be doing VERY soon!

well i heard mentioned that the vortech is the one that you have to tap the oil pan. however, by self contained unit such as the kb, they mean you are still going to have to change the oil in the kb itself as well as doing your regular cars oil change.

i didnt like the fact of tapping the oil pan either when i first heard it, but its no big deal. many many people run vortech and dont have a problem. plus the oil is always fresh for the blower every time u change your regular oil.

i just wanted to try to clear that up for him, i prpbably made it worse.

i do have a quick question though. When you run synthetic oil and you tap the pan for the blower, its ok for the blower to be run on synthetic too?
