Hello, I have a few questions for you guys today. I figured I would kill two birds with one stone today. The first question is, I have a 1988 Ford mustang gt with speed density. Was thinking about converting it to carb, but some people told me I would be running into more problems then, sticking with the fuel injection. So for the first question, What would be the cheapest way to convert my sp to maf? What vehicle's could I pull one from, someone told me I could pull the maf from either a (94-95) gt. Would this idea work or would I just be better off buying the conversion kit from jegs, or summit? Want to keep the cost below $500 but if there is no other way then that's it. Now for the second question, I have read about people going with either gt40- gt40p heads. My second question is, which one is better? any suggestions would help out alot.

thanks

Check eBay for some take-off MAF setups from others who've ditched EFI and gone carb'ed (or are just parting out cars). Otherwise, you're probably better off just getting the pre-packaged conversion kit deal new from someplace, just shop around for the best price.

We should ask just to be sure: is there a particular reason for converting to MAF? I'm an oddball who thinks that a correctly-running SD system is better than MAF. Now once mods/tuning issues come about, then the MAF swap is very enticing (for the sake of tuning costs). But converting for the sake of converting isnt something I'd do.

Good luck.

i agree i even knew i guy who coverted his MAF to SD because he said mustangs run better on the SD setup if everything is stock...

i dont know if he was right but when i did my swap i only did it knowing i ws pulling the motor in 3 hours... but i didn't really notive much of a difference

the reason for the maf question is that, someday down the road when money isn't so tight. I would like to do a whole new top end setup on it, cam, heads, intake, and some other newer parts. Just figured I would get an idea now for future searches. But, the part of the question is what would be the cheapest route of doing this job? What are some other years/ models I can pull the items from. Need the maf, I suppose the right ecc, and the pigtail that goes from the maf to the harness. I do beleive that I am pretty much stock right now other than the cai I put on when I bought the car. I do belive the are factory (orange tops) the only thing that I can seen done to the car was that one of the previous owners had drilled a hole, through one of the edges of the throttle body, where the intake tube slips on. And must have been the same person drilled a hole in the console near the shifter, also found positive and negative 8-10 guage primary wires going up the dash, also was a scotch lok, with a 14 guage primary wire attach to the tps wires. that is all that I know that has been done to the car. what I was talking about at the start was the injectors are orange tops, I belive are stock
