my car usually makes at least 11lbs of boost, then yesterday it was only making 5. so i took it to my parents to check it out and on the way it started knocking. checked the oil and NOTHING showed up on the dipstick, so i drained the oil and put new oil in, noise is still there. pretty sure i spun a bearing, lesson to all, check your oil.

How much oil came out when you drained it?

Low oil is the fastest way to kill a mod motor. So much oil is sent to the heads, that there is hardly any tolerance for a lack of oil in the bottom end. I always run 1 extra quart than recommended just to be safe.

My 4.6L has ran low on oil about 2 times... so low the oil gauge would jump from 0 to middle. But she kept on running strong. =[ Its also overheated to the point of smoke billowing out of it 2 times.

My poor 4.6L was a brave motor. I miss her.

The only thing that she couldn't handle was fire.

None of this was on purpose.. just happened lol.

I drained 2 quarts out of my engine 2 times. I had a oil leak from the oil pan. No oil light ever came on .. on my 97GT. From what i heard they removed the low oil light after 1996 or something? So, 1984-96 stangs had the low oil light if im not mistaken.

Check the bolts on your oil pan and look @ that area for oil.

does your car nomally use oil.... how much, mine only uses 1 half a Quart
every 5 k miles. You should check your oil 2 times a week.

Not hard to do with the blower on the car.

Any weakness in the rings, valve seals, or stems will just be magnified with boost in terms of oil getting past them.

Do you have a catch can? You might be surprised how much blow-by you're getting. Good idea to invest in one.

well obviously there is no way in hell im just gonna fix the problem or stock replacement. but as of right now im trying to get into a house so i cant put a penny into the car. it will prolly sit until at least next summer, but i would really like to get the 5.0 stroker from mmr racing. but only time will tell

Wow, that's exactly my situation! I graduated college in the spring of 2009, moved back in with he parents (they're charging me rent ), and started saving every penny I could to afford a house. I was just a few grand away from a down payment when this happened.

Unfortunately, I can't just let the Mustang sit until I get the money to fix it, because we are tight on parking here and I had to buy another car (Miata) to get myself to work. So it looks like I'm going to have to fix it soon and push back my house-buying plans.

I'm also seriously considering the stroker from MMR. It's especially enticing when combined with the Boss 5.0 block (thereby making a 5.3L) and TrickFlow heads, but that would cost about $9000, and that sort of coin will set me back several months. At least I have enough cash saved up where I won't have to go into debt or anything.

Anyway, sorry for the hijack. Just wanted to commiserate.
