Knocking sound...not detonation!?!?!

Anyone want to come over and hear what the hell my car is doing? It sounds like detonation but my timing is fine and I'm running premium fuel. This all happened after my oil pressure started having problems so I took my pan off and realized that the used Canton pan I had bought had the baffles removed, except one of them that fell off inside the pan! I put on a new HV pump and pickup just for the heck of it and cleaned out the pan, put it all back together and now I'm getting a knocking sound, but only when the engine is warmed up and I take out for a spin for a while. It only makes the noise while revving at about 1600 + rpm, and you can really hear it going down the road too. I took my stethoscope but could not narrow it down, I can hear the noise with my ear everywhere. Going down the road it sounds like detonation, but I didn't mess with the timing at all, and I checked the timing just in case and it's fine. I'm freakin' stumped and that doesn't happen to me very much. The only thing I can think of is a bearing in the engine, but I do not see why it would do that now. BTW, my oil pressure is fine now that I got that metal piece out of the pan.

Chances are if you lost oil pressure and drove for any amount of time then the damage is already done. If it is a constant noise then I would venture to say you have killed a main or rod bearing.

I was kind of thinking that too but the noise isn't constant, while driving you only hear it in at certain times, almost like detonation. Also, when the engine is cold it sounds great, I had my buddy hold the revs at 5500 rpm while I listened under the hood while the engine was warmed up but not that warm and the motor was sounding great, but once we took it around the block we could hear the knocking sounds again. I adjusted the valves hoping that would help but it did not make a difference. I don't want to pull the motor if I don't have to, but I think you may be right 2L8ULUZ2! :( :nonono: :bang: :fuss: :damnit:

does it do it every time you drive it???

mine does some knocking every once in a while when its warm. hasnt in a while though.
i think my problem is piston slap, which could be worn rings or something...

I also have a knocking problem...I dont know if its unusual to the stangs but sometimes between idle and 2200 rpms (usually right after i upshift) i get like a violent knocking that I want to call a misfire because it feels like a cylinders not firing. new plugs+top half of distributer+wires+new coil didnt help my problem at all.
anyways just thought i'd add, sorry to be of no help!
