So heres the situation, i recently bought a 1990 GT, and the heads were previously warped. I guess he blew a head gasket and they got a little 'warm' and warped. So he had the heads milled .40" over, installed the heads himself. Now, when you let off the gas around 1500-2500 rpm there is a very audible knock, not a slight knock, very knotciable. WOuld this have to do with the valve lash? one cylinder being WAY out of spec and resulting in this horrid noise? or could it be a bent pushroad? im gonna tear into it later today, just asking for some things to look out for. Thxs!

Oh yea, if it matter it has a E303 cam.

easy way to check the pushrods is to use a mirror and roll them on the mirror. Also, the valves might be touching the pistons a bit if the heads were blocked. I have had valve clearance problems. Easy way to check that is to get some playdoe and squish it on the piston where the valve reliefs are and roll the motor over. then, measure how deep the valve went into the clay. That will let you know how much clearance you have. Adjusting the rockers might be a good idea as well. If youre not sure how I can explain. Let me know.
