my friends car wouldnt start the other day so I pulled the codes and came up with a 522.has anyone run into this code before? it says that the car is not in neutral or park while the test is being performed. would this indicate a bad neutral safety switch? it is an automatic vehicle. I ran through the gears and dropped it back in park. still no luck.

The MLPS was replaced? Just confirming............

Does the car act-up or is it just a CEL annoyance?

Here's some generic info about the MLPS and some testing specs.

Good luck.

the car wont start and is taking up space in my driveway. (something my wife reminds me about daily) I thought for sure that it would have been the safety switch, but I guess I was wrong

The MLPS is the switch on the driver's side of the trans.

They can be real finicky to get aligned properly (one mm can make all the difference).
There's a hash mark on the Neutral position of the sensor IIRC. You put the shifter in neutral and line up the hash marks. Then tighten the two bolts down (they're like 8 or 10 mm bolt heads IIRC).

TCCoA has TONS of info and posts about it if you wanna check that out.

Good luck.
