95 GT parking brake instrument cluster light trouble

Hello all! I’m new to being a member here, but have owned my 95 GT for 15 years or so.

I have an aftermarket Compustar alarm system that has a remote start feature. In order for this to functional it has a neutral safety switch, and must be put into what’s called reservation mode. I set the parking brake while in neutral and turn off ignition, car continues to run. Get out, shut door, alarm system arms and car shuts off. Reservation mode is then activated.

Problem I’m facing right now is that the instrument cluster parking brake light is not illuminating consistently. Almost never when I park and set parking brake, but is sometimes on when I go out next day and start it up to go somewhere.

A friend suggests that I clean the electrical connector for the parking brake at the brake handle under the center console. I’ve also read of a dual system switch at the MC?

Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance.

There's a small switch on the physical handle itself. The contacts usually oxidize which leads to bad connection.

Standard motor products DS-3363 is a replacement part for it.

The brake light is also tied into the MC fluid level. If the fluid is fine, you can test this by jumping out the connector. Unplug it, and (assuming it works the same as fox cars) put a small jumper wire across the two same-color wires. The black would be a ground.

But my guess is it's the parking brake switch itself mounted on the handle.
